Major lag in TF2

For some reason I experience major lag when I play TF2 on this computer (at my dad's house). I have the graphics turned down almost all the way - low everything, 2x AA, Bilinear AF, 1280x1024. I used to be able to play 2142, BF2, CnC3 on this computer just fine.

Vista 32 bit Basic
Athlon 64 3200+
nVidia 6800GS PCI-E (I think it's PCI-E at least...)
2GB of RAM

How do I make this not suck at TF2? It's not THAT graphically intensive of a game, especially at low settings...

New drivers? This sounds like your GFX cant handle it. May be the AA is the problem?

Clean out the dust and update drivers. I'm sure you've already tried the trusty restart.

Reinstalled graphics drivers; didn't help at all. Also, the sound tends to sound shitty for some reason; weren't there some custom x-fi drivers that were like 20x better than the Creative ones?

God this is fucking bullshit, this PC was able to run CnC3 at relatively high settings pretty well. TF2 at low looks fucking terrible compared to that, yet it runs horribly.

Not a RAM issue either

I got TF2 recently and mine lags bad in a server with 15-20 people... i have turned everything down and i have fios 20 mb dwn/5mb up
and i can play BF2 on medium with 40-65fps... i feel your pain...lol... about to build a quadcore/monster card/4gb ram etc... if that doesnt work...
than oh well...

Id say it's your resolution, to be honest.

I never ran games higher than 1024 x 760 when I had a single 7600GT.

Had the same thing regarding the graphics ... right before my first real "match" on TF2 lol! I honestly can't remember how it was fixed ... to be honest, I think it fixed itself after a while
