k....my modem just started cycling all of its lights and refused to connect to the interwebs. after unplugging it until it cooled it repeated the issue until i held down the reset button and now it's working. anybody have any idea what's up?

its an RCA modem and thats really all the info i have on it. its rented from crapcast.

So the reset button got it working. Is it still bugging out or is it sitting happy now?

Try to find a manual and find out what the cycling lights means. Possibly heat, possibly some random software problem. There should be a serial number somewhere on the unit or some sort of identification. Try and connect to 192.168.100.1, that may be the modem IP (at least it is for mine, and it's an Arris unit).

If all else fails call Comcast and ask them to identify your modem. They used to do hard resets over the phone, so they have some remote access to it.
