Yep, vista sucks major donkey balls

Filled with bugs
Endless crashes
Much slower to load up than XP
Huge performance loss in games
And many more bad things

And don't give me the "your computer must be teh sux0rs", look at the specs in my sig.

XP x64 is the best OS I have ever used, Win2k SP4 being a close second.

I have to admit, I got Vista for my machine at work, and I like it better than XP.

Well apart from it refusing to patch CoD4 (1.6 and 1.7 were fine, the earlier ones refused to work, Winter Crash is still fucked to this day) and the fact that it's a gigantic memory whore I can't say I've seen much wrong with it (I'm still on XP my bro has Vista Home Premium).

Didn't know you could get 64bit XP (is that what you meant?) I'm gonna get it next.

From my experience, it's only the average PC user who encounters problems with Vista, whereas people with decent tech knowledge have no issues.  Maybe Vista isn't as user friendly as XP.  All I know is that I was able to quickly fix any problems that did crop up.  Haven't had to reformat or restore for over a year now.  I have yet to see a BSoD or a system crash that I cannot ctrl+alt+del out of.  All games run exactly as they did on XP.

The only downside to Vista is its slightly high hardware requirements.  I blame this for most problems that people have with Vista... it's their computer that sucks, not the OS.

I'm building my new rig in august & I'll be using vista. Every M$ OS has had problems at one time or another, then it's patched & all is ok in the world.

Ok, let me be a little more detailed:

8800GTX and Creative X-Fi drivers DO NOT WORK TOGETHER IN VISTA, according to what I read when googling the error code, ergo: BSOD every 10 or 20 minutes.
I've had nothing but problems with Vista, while I have never encountered anything in XP x64 other than gay apple locking itunes from installing on xp x64 while it works flawlessly with a simple workaround...

I did have Vista 32bit working once, the big killer, however, was the 40% FPS drop I got. 90FPS vs 50FPS in CoD4.

Yes, XP Pro x64. I use it and I love it.

For me, it crashes less than XP x86. But that's probably because I used that OS on my computer for about 5 years straight installing and uninstalling stuff, defragging about once every 2 years.

How is that Vista's fault?  The whole Creative driver debacle is Creative's fault for writing bad drivers, not Vista's!  I also have an 8800 and I assure you that the official Vista x64 Nvidia drivers are perfectly stable.  I have onboard sound and no problems there either.  That sucks that your sound card drivers are wacky, but I don't see how it is Vista's fault.

Yeah, that is true.

But Vista not being able to read my RAID drivers while XP can do it fine, and the huge performance drop is Vista's fault.

Funny you post this. I just made vista x64 my primary. It has its varying issues, but being confronted with and overcoming them is what will make you a better IT guy. What you are experiencing at work many professionals deal with when doing large roll out of anything ... this is good thing ... it is what keeps you employed.

I had an issue with Vista running slower.  I did the reinstall after about 9 months and changed the order in which some things were installed, uninstalled.  Since I got all my updates and stuff installed it's running much better.  Only 2 issues I have are with CDs not reading properly, but i believe that to be the CD or Reader and not Vista itself.

never had any serious problems with Windows Vista Ultimate x64... just iTunes acting up and other programs, nothing as far as Windows programs though

and I would never switch back to XP btw...

I agree completely.  I used Windows 2000 until July 2005, when I switched directly to XP x64.  I didn't like XP when it first came out.

Again, that's probably not Vistas fault, but is probably due to you not having Vista RAID drivers.

That doesn't mean it can't be used against Vista. Since game incompatibility with Macs is a valid argument, there's no reason driver incompatibility isn't an argument against Vista.

It may not be Vistas fault, but if you need RAID and Vista can't run it without buying other hardware, then Vista becomes less and less worth it.

Since when has game incompatibility with Macs been a valid argument?

Look many of you want to squeeze every last FPS out of your computer you can and thats fine.  But, the more of you that switch and give Vista experience the quicker and better it will become.  Yes, Vista does take more resources to run but its the new OS.  The more you want to do the more you have to use.(Resources)

This past weekend I installed Windows XP x64 edition and it ran great but by night fall I was install Vista again.  Vista quickly grows on you once you figure out the issues.  Its a very smart OS.  For example if you use Live Mail all you have to do is enter your e-mail address and it sets up all the e-mail servers for you.  Also, Vista is vastly more stable than XP if you have proper drivers install.  As I discovered this weekend, the newest beta drivers for X-Fi do not play well at all.  It did fix my mic but it would stop working during some games.  All I did was go to hardware and uninstall and it cleanly removed all X-Fi drivers and I could install the old ones without issues.  Also, the "Games" menu is really cool.  I discovered this weekend that they combined multiple menu options together so that you can get to some game options just by right clicking the game in the "Games" folder.  I was very impressed with that one. LOL

Everyone should at least try Vista once.  Setup a second HDD or a partitioned part of your HDD.  If you run into any issues many users on these forums are more than willing to help including my self.  Hell, I even wrote a basic FAQ/Q&A for Vista a while back and still works.  I know every can't though too.  I mean some of you are still running single core under 2GHz and Vista would eat the PC alive.  But, those who have the capable hardware should.  They will probably release another service pack by next year and it should fix and speed up Vista even more.

I will probably never go back to XP again because i'm so use to Vista.  Its just so much cleaner and easier to use.  You just have to rub it in the right way to get it to do what you want.

P.S.  I have a few tricks to speed up Vista somewhat.

I like Vista. My desktop has nothing on it because I can just type the name of something in the start menu and it comes up. I like how it looks too.

Wow does Vista suck.
So many weird user account problems.
Accounts corrupting themselves, asking for passwords for accounts which don't have passwords, losing data, losing entire accounts.
And I've never seen Windows update crash before.
