We should see how he feels. Is he being treated nicely? Hopefully his sheets are being turned down and his cookies are nice and warm.

Hopefully this one'll stay alive long enough to finish his trial.

He is going to drag out his trial for years and years costing millions of €, making a complete mockery out of the War Crimes Tribunal. Than if he survives till the end he will spend few years in prison and than die or get released due to old age.
Anyway, during the war there were members of the international community that supported the serbs. Even after the war when Karadzic was supposed to be arrested, on couple occasions he was warned in advance. He said that he has "dirt" on some of them and that he will release it if he ever gets captured. That might be interesting in days to come, if he doesn't get mysteriously killed...
Im in Bosnia currently and so far there were no mayor problems, although the Serbian TV channels still haven't reported the news. We will see what happens later today.
I was interested in what penalty he would actually be facing. It seems that the ICTY* can at most impose life imprisonment. Shame really, considering what he's responsible for.usmarine2 wrote:

well, that sucks. He should be blindfolded, shot but left barely alive, then bulldozed into a hold and buried alive. I mean, he saw that a fitting end for other people, so why not him?mcminty wrote:

They were talking on the radio about this, they were saying how he's not like Milosevic at all. He doesn't have that sort of personality to do this. So he'll most likely completely co-operate properly with the court. So according to them it'll be a different story.zeidmaan wrote:

I still don't fully understand all this Yugoslavian stuff. Is he on trial for participating in those Muslim massacres (massacres, against the Muslims, that is..?) or is he on the Muslim side, or the Bosnian Serbs.....or the.....Idunno

Mistake! I think you'll find they actually captured the infamous Ronnie Drew from The Dubliners (singer of the classic 'The Irish Rover').

"Those defendants on trial and those who were denied a provisional release are detained at a prison facility in Scheveningen, located some 3 km by road from the courthouse. The indicted are housed in private cells which have a toilet, shower, radio, satellite TV and other comforts. They are allowed to phone family and friends daily and can have conjugal visits "usmarine2 wrote:

good they got him anyway.
I'm surprised they never caught him sooner given the success of his sit com TV show 'Father Ted'...

Chalk one up for the good guys.

He was the political figurehead, the ideology that he put in place paved the way for Zlatko Mladic (the head of the military) to carry out his program of ethnic cleansing. I think 8000 Muslims or thereabouts were killed as a result. Karadzic is apparently a psychiarist originally so his trial could prove very interesting to say the least.c14u53w172 wrote:

Basically he was the leader of the Serb (Bosnian Serbs) movement to kill all non Serbs on the territory of Bosnia. Its said that he was against "Muslims" and thats what makes it confusing for people to understand. It implies that he was agianst religious people only which is not true.Mek-Stizzle wrote:

Ill try to explain.
In former Yugoslavia Bosnian nationality was abolished. Suddenly people in Bosnia had to declare them selves as Croats or Serbs. This didnt sit well of course and many years later the government created a ridiculous thing called "Muslim by Nationality". You even had Christian Muslims, Jewish Muslims etc. Even though Bosnian nationality was instituted again before the war (after the secession from Yugoslavia), the media and the international community went with "Muslims" instead of "Bosnians". So when you read about the war, even today, it says "Serbs, Croats and Muslims". This is very unfair to the thousands of Serbs and thousands of Croats who fought on the Bosnia side.
