Dual Video Cards

Can you run two different cards at the same time? Such as what I'm thinking about doing.

I put a 8600GT w/ 256mb in my bro's computer last Christmas, and want to put another one in, and I found a good deal on a 8800GT w/ 512mb.

Would that work? Or do they have to be 2x 8600GTs or 2x 8800GTs?

Will not work for nvidia cards. Ati card support CrossfireX which allows you to mix different models.

yea, if you have 2 pcie slots, but u cant sli

then again, I would recommend you get an 8800gt and sli that, cuz the 8600gt's aren't very good in sli.

umm, he can run any two cards that has 2 pcie slots, but he cant mix ati with nvdia, cuz of the drivers.

edit - also Crossfire is like sli, but for ATi cards instead, only ATi cards....= Crossfire....sli= nvdia

Yeah true, true. I was assuming he meant SLI/CF. It is possible to use 8800 and 8600 like so that you use 8800 for one and 8600 on another monitor. Using them both to calculate pixels on same monitor is not possible. With ati cards mixing models and still retaining CF is possible.
