DU wins the thread. Just make sure your current case is compatible with that motherboard. In otherwords it better be an ATX case and not a mATX case. Also, your RAM that you have in your house atm, make sure it's compatible. DDR2.

Also, make sure you actually know how to do all this shit.

Also, make sure you have the CD's and shit for your HD/DVD drive and shit. Also make sure they're comptaible with your new mobo. They might be IDE (ATA) whilst your new Mobo is SATA.

Ted make sure you go through all this properly or you'll find that you're going to have to buy new HDD/DVD drives and a new case too and RAM.

This was my upgrade ^^ Total (inc VAT)  £336.11  (exc Delivery)
I recently bought the Gigabyte P31 and StealthStream 500W. (Two weeks ago) The psu is not modular but the cables are wrapped nicely along with the black colour scheme that gives the PSU a quality feel. The psu has a 20+4 pin connector and it creates no problems with the board's 24 pin req.

Now the motherboard; It is a stable platform. It has a feature whereby it drops the multiplier of the CPU when it is not under load (drops my E8200 to 2Ghz, feature can be disabled), this creates no problems other than looking at CPUz . The memory limit on this board is PC2-6400, anything better and it will underclock your memory, and it does not like double sided modules.
Use the RealTek drivers from the realtek website, the one on the CD left me without sound. For me AC'97 front module support is non-existent despite inputting the correct settings. Expect to re-register your OS, for me this got scary since I thought I had to and was re-installing XP. In the end my user was displayed on the logon screen and all I had to do was re-register the product. (no reinstalling every program, phew )

ok, drop the 600W PSU and get an 500W. 8800GT/3870/4850 or even 3850 will do. You must free up some money for the ram. 1GB is to less these days, even with windows XP when you're playing games. You need a nice and cheap 2GB kit. I'll see what I can configure. Give me some links to good websites.

Ok the 3GB you have laying around, are you sure it's DDR2? Ow and DU wins when no ram is required.

Check the memory support list. This is why I picked the Crucuial Ballistix (just to be sure).

yeh it's all DDR2.

I don't have a fucking clue what my case is, other than it's a imedia packard bell one.

Can someone please figure out if all this shit will fit.

That Mobo has one IDE slot, meaning Ted can add 2 IDE devices in. If he has more then we gotta think about something else.

Hard to say about the case, what's the complete model of the computer?

That looks like an mATX case. I know because I also have an old 2004 iMedia and it's mATX too. I mean you can use normal ATX PSU's in it, but you won't fit an ATX motherboard into it. In otherwords, you're gonna need a new case. Or, buy an mATX motherboard.

So, whats more cost effective - new case, or new mobo?

also, would i be able to mount everything in a new case easily?

im going pub, keep it going.

also, DU's suggestion looks the best, but a 500w will be enough

I think you have the same computer as my friend. If your motherboard has a square like piece missing no other motherboard will fit in the case. You have to cut out a piece of your case for the new mobo to fit.

Grab it with the 500W and pick a new case in too. There are decent cases for like £10 at ebuyer.

Doesn't seem like a bad choice. And looks slick indeed. Will fit your mobo in and as the HD4850 is not all that big, it'll go in fine too.

Can you get the fans out of your current case cause the case you chose has no fans included

Casefans are after all optional, at least if not overclocking and the PSU has 120mm fan. I, for example, have none in my two computers. (Run one of them with side panel open though)

Wouldn't hurt to pick a 120mm intake and a 80mm exhaust fan though
