NVIDIA remark 8800GT to 9800GT, no more HybridPower

According to our source, GeForce 9800GT is just around the corner. Because there are still lots of 8800GT inventory out there, NVIDIA have decided that they will allow partners to flash BIOS, change 8800GT device ID to 9800GT device ID directly.

What’s more, if partner wants, NVIDIA can laser remark those inventory G92 chip.

9800GT will support HybridPower, but because of inventory cards lack of control chips so they will not support the power saving feature.

This time NV provides not only reference card but also production permission to all partners at the right beginning of the launch. That means all companies can make non-reference card to reduce cost.

The card will be officially announced in this quarter.

gg nvidia. 8800GT was/is a legend but 9800GT is just BS. What are your thought on nvidia's marketing?

Nvidia marketing is lost. The corporation as a whole has made terrible decisions by trying to pass this bullshit onto the consumers. They got caught and are going to have to play catch up.

Yes very disappointing. I was hoping that the 98gt would help in lowering the cost of the 88gt, since they are one in the same all 88 becomes 98 at a new price.

also everyone can just flash their old 88 to the 98.

So I've got a single 8800gt 512mb at the moment, is there any point buying a 9800gt, when I could Sli two 8800gt's instead?

And what do you mean by flash, is it just an overclock?

My card is a made by Gigabyte and has already been slightly overclocked and uses a larger fan than the usual make, iirc.

Flash to 9800GT and then OC. Nvidia recommends buying a brand new 9800Gt though.

You sure you can flash it on your own (lolz flash it!).? E.g the 8800GTS couldnt be flashed to be a 9800GTX as far as I remember, wouldnt it be the same here?

i have the Zotac 8800gt, so if it is flashed or whatever it becomes a 9800GT?

what would be the advantages and disadvantages of that??

Looks like the 9800GT bios does't have any advantages Reflashing the card with higher clocks and the increasing the Vcore will have to do. linky for those of you that are interested
