Where I live...we are (so far) at a 20 year temperature LOW....but I'm sure it's because all the fargin ice melting has worked it's way down to us. I believe Global Warming is cyclical however >>> I do NOT advocate misuse of natural resources and I definitely think we need to find an alternative to fossil fuels...ASAP.
[edit] Oh...and by the way...yes I think he's a bit of a hypocrite as the house carbon footprint is fact but as for his rolling in SUV's....

While I do agree that Al Gore is a sack of shit, I would not discredit the honest work of thousands of scientists who have put years of research into this long before Al Gore came along.CaptainSpaulding71 wrote:
i have a theory. my theory is that the earth has moved closer to the sun than in the near past - hence causing warming to occur. in a bunch of years the earth's orbit around the sun will wobble back to where it was before and we will be experiencing a 'cooling' phase. i think it's about as plausible as the global warming CO2 people's theories.
check it out...it's not the fact that i refuse to do things to help the environment. far from it, i'm doing my share with recycling, being responsible by not doing frivolous traveling, etc. But honestly, i see more zealotry than actual science here. especially in the way alternative viewpoints are 'silenced' with a fury from the far left. rather than debate the true science of the issue, it's quite a bit easier to defame these scientists and simply call them knuckledragger fascists in the back pocket of an unpopular president. this is patent BS! party of debate, my ass.
Ever see the movie Cat's Eye by Stephen King? Quitters, Inc is a story where a guy wants to quit smoking so he joins this service that is supposed to help him do that. long story short, they basically bully your family (cut off your wife's finger since you smuggled a smoke) and then (this is where it gets scary) start thinking you have to lose some weight. i can see the same thing happening over time with the environmental zealots - start changing our way of life slowly and then it goes beyond it's original intentions to fit their own agenda of how the world should be. That's what is ridiculous.
I do not trust Gore's true intentions. The global warming thing actually is even immaterial in this argument - i'm looking at it more of as a political ploy.
I think Al Gore should be silenced. Instead, we should start listening to people like James Hansen, the Hadley Centre... etc. People who actually understand this stuff and aren't out to make any money.
BTW... I don't see why we need to debate any more. It is increasingly clear that a common attitude is "I still don't believe in GW but I think alternative energy sources would be a good thing"... I have no problems with that. In fact, I applaud that view because you haven't compromised your own views but you have seen what is, IMO, common sense - there is no point in needlessly fucking up the environment.
So really, in my view the debate is largely over in that area. The debate is now moving to a governmental level - prepare to see a lot of bickering over carbon permits and what not.

The global freeze scare was due to newspaper reporters not understanding what they were being told. All the global cooling stuff tells you is how poorly informed the mainstream media are on complex topics. If you want to know about topics like global climate change, go look up some more technical sources than Fox/CNN etc.[TUF]Catbox wrote:

I still think it's amazing how many people refuse to accept that thousands of scientists might actually know more about the topic than their own 5 minutes of internet 'research' tells them.
Global cooling was for a while a bit of a problem. But the clean air act put paid to that (most of our emissions now are in harmless steam or odourless gases like co2 - notice 'our' and not 'china's'), as it cleaned up most of the cooling-causing pollutants (sulphur compounds) which were hanging around. They don't last too long without constant 'replenishment', so it went away.

Not really, because Al Gore isn't a scientist. Or a terrorist. He's just a guy with a big mouth.CommieChipmunk wrote:

Probably not, but he does it anyway. You'd have to ask a psychologist. Always thought the guy was a bit tilted even when I first looked into him in the 90s.CameronPoe wrote:

best Al Gore quotes
“How could this Y2K be a problem in a country where we have Intel and Microsoft?”
“A zebra does not change its spots.”
“I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future.”
“I pledge to you today that as president, in my first budget, I will introduce the largest increase in special education ever.”
“The heart of the security agenda is protecting lives - and we now know that the number of people who will die of AIDS in the first decade of the 21st Century will rival the number that died in all the wars in all the decades of the 20th century.”

Let's start a BF2s list of hypocritical things Al Gore does.
You know, because you guys care so much about this stuff.
We can put it next to the Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson lists you guys are keeping.
Keep up the good work guys!
