if you wanna slim down, run.
Please note that this isn't the only way to slim down, but it's one of the better ways.clogar wrote:

Any form of cardio will cause an increase in metabolism and heart rate, and IO prefer a boxing routine, an agility ladder routine, HiiT, or a crossfit-esque workout for my cardio. Mix them up, that way I never get bored.
Running is good because it uses a lot of muscles. Feet, legs, stomach, diaphragm, even arms

don't do situps or crunches, Go run.Ryan wrote:
I'm just trying to slim down a bit. I don't really care if I get abs showing or not, I just want it to be flatter.ebug9 wrote:
Crunches are better imo. There isn't as much movement involved and it still works the stomach muscles. It builds abs but if there's some fat there to begin with, you'll have to get rid of that before the muscle shows.
If you want to lose weight, do something that makes you lose weight all over...you can't spot reduce your gut.
I never swam at an early age and so suck at swimming big style. I can barely go under water without water rushing in everywhere and me drowning temporarily until I realize "wait, I go up". But then again, all swimming I have done has been under mandatory fitness - maybe that's what I dislike it. Casual swimming I think is cool I like to run because I listen to music. The Sheriff wrote:

Ryan - if you are trying to lose a bit of fat / weight then running (and swimming I guess) is the way to go. Personally, I find the cemetery I live by a great route (1.75 miles uphills and downhills) and I'm sure there is something similar near you.
I like to bike alotkylef wrote:

Do it, nothing wrong with it. But do it as sports, not as sightseeing.Ryan wrote:

Find a track/route where you can keep up a good speed for a while - but know that it takes aprox. 3x the time of biking for the same result as with running - which should not keep you from doing it anyway!
A crunch isn't a crunch without your legs crossed and in the air.
That said, run, bike, swim. That will tone you down(up? Sideways?) a lot better than crunches.

I do a fair bit of biking too, but running takes more energy to cover the same distance (assuming we aren't taking land straightness into account) - biking really only works your leg muscles.Ryan wrote:

Google "Up Dog" and "Down Dog"
They are yoga positions. Make sure you work your whole abdominal belt in one workout, or your strength will become lopsided. A six pack does nothing if you don't have obliques or lower back strength.
...But if you want extreme (fast, hard), Grab onto a pullup bar or a railing, extend your legs and bring them to a 90 degree angle with your torso, and slowly release. You work every core muscle on your body
