WASHINGTON - Three ballistic missile crew members in North Dakota fell asleep while holding classified launch code devices this month, triggering an investigation by military and National Security Agency experts, the Air Force says.

This is going to look great compare to all the other Nuclear slip-ups we've had lately. (Missiles over US, detonator in Taiwan, etc.)

Reminds me of a story my Physics teacher (well now he's my engineering teacher but at the time we was physics) once told me a about one of his professors when he was in college.

The professor was an engineer for the Air Force, and was in one of two parts of a team that was working on the mechanism that allowed for light bombers to safely carry tactical nuclear weapons. His team's job was to make sure that in the event that the nuke breaks from the aircraft, that it will not detonate. While the other team's job was to make sure that the nuke didn't fall from the plane in the first place.

When the mechanism was finally tested, the bomb fell off the plane but it did not detonate. And as a result the professor and his team got commendations, while the other guys didn't get their tenures renewed.

But it's the principle of not doing your duty which seems to be at hand, which is making the Air Force look like it's full of stupid-ass people who can't follow rules.
