something went wrong with my nx8800 ultra so i have been looking for a new one
so getting this one XFX NVidia GeForce 9800GX2 1GB 9800 GX2 XXX HDMI

and this is one of the reviews i saw for this card

GeForce 9800 GX2 gets the biggest blunt object it can carry, kicks the front door down and batters a game engine into submission. Despite the size and heat of the card, it does justify its price if you want to play modern games at high resolutions.

i should be getting this card in the next day or two

so what do u guys think of it

What rez do you play at? It isnt a 1GB card no matter what they advertise. It's 2x512.

I'd go Crossfire 4870s, or GTX 280 any day.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

1680x1050 is nothing. To take advantage of multi-core graphics cards, you need to game at resolutions over 1920x1200. For that and under, a single-core graphics card will have more advantages.

While this may be true, you are not playing at "high" resolution. There are few games I've played that an 8800gt can't handle at max settings and keep at or very near 60 fps (which is the max your LCD will display)

As to be expected... The 360 uses a card similar to that of the X1950XTX, and it's like 2, 3 years old?

If I had the option to get one for the usual price of them, or a 4870 or even 4850, I'd get the 4870/50. What did you pay for it? If you got it for very cheap, of course it's a good buy.

unless you got it for some special price, there is only 1 reason to get a 9800GX2: CUDA. The card rapes the more expensive 280GTX at CUDA applications like folding@home. For gaming, ati 48** is a better buy

If you purchased it under $350, then it was a good buy. If not, you could have gotten better for your money with a gtx 280(they're under $400 now).
With that gx2 you'll have to worry about microstutters, and if the game doesn't support sli, get ready for a serious drop in frame rate.

got this video card this morning in the post and i have been playing on COD 4 on it
and am getting 91FPS on 1680x1050
this card rocks
far better than nx8800 ultra that i had before it went awol on me

hey guys, I just bought a 6600AGP for 500$. It runs BF1942 on all high with great FPS. What a terrific buy
