I find it a little odd that you utterly missed my point (well, actually I don't as it happens often), so I'll just go down the river with the current red herring seasonal migration flow.Vilham wrote:
This isn't a case of I cant see god therefore he doesn't exist. This is a case of statistical analysis showing the odds of extra terrestrial life existing somewhere in the galaxy regardless of whether they could even visit us which is unlikely based on the statistics and the average distance there should be between life in the universe.topal63 wrote:
I am thinking, it wouldn't matter if they did or didn't exist. The chances of them visiting here are near-zero (time & space reasons; not to mention motive or finding a needle in a haystack reasons) - and thus that's the only way they'd deserve the moniker; name; label; "alien." I think they have to visit here to earn the name. I am with m3thod on this, I don't believe in them either because I don't think they've ever visited here, and I've never seen any proof (of visitation) other than utter nonsense. Being agnostic about the possibility of life beyond earth is one thing, but it's a bit nutters to believe in "aliens."Vilham wrote:
Really? You dont think there could be aliens out there? Out of the billions of planets? The chance of them having ever visited earth is minute but the chance of them existing elsewhere in the galaxy is far from small.
And if you don't believe there could be other life based on odds of life existing on a habitable planet, and the odds of habitable planets existing out of planets in general, and the odds of suns having planets out of suns in general out there, then I don't see how you think we got here, unless you believe in God creating us and holding us special above all other life, which is blatant shit in my opinion.
There is no such thing as statistical analysis when comes to either of these two concepts:
a.) The probability of life.
b.) The improbability of life.
There isn't any meaningful statistics or data available in existence (i.e. the Drake equation is pure conjured up nonsense) upon which to make a comparison. Equally, it is utterly ridiculous for a pro-intelligent-design agenda to assert life is improbable - in the face of a possibility realized. There is the possibility that life has existed in every Universe that has ever existed, problem here would be we don't how many is how many and the answer could even be 1. There is the possibility that life is utterly improbable but that wouldn't matter as it needs to be only a greater-than-zero possibility. Considering we do exist - it's at least a greater-than-zero possibility. Beyond that is speculation, and I already said I am agnostic about the possibility of extraterrestrial life; which is utterly different than believing in "aliens" which encapsulates more than that (the possibility of extraterrestrial life) as it implies "visitations to planet Earth."
I don't see were I mentioned God so I don't know why you are bringing that abstraction up, but feel free to flow were ever you want.
