o_0Alexandru Ionce and his wife never planned to be the most prolific parents in B.C. in the past 20 years, but when they welcomed little Abigail into the world on Tuesday, that's just what happened.
"People sometimes they think I'm joking, (but it's) not true," says mom Livia Inoce.
Baby Abigail weighed in at seven pounds, 12 ounces when she was born July 22, making her the 18th child for the 44-year-old and her husband Alexandru, 51.
Their 17 other children range in age from 20 months to 23 years old.
The Ionce's immigrated from Romania to Abbotsford, B.C., in 1990 with five children in tow.
Plenty for most parents, but not these two. The kids kept coming.
"The only reason we have kids so many because we trust in God and we don't stop the life," says Alexandru.
Ioana is the oldest child. At 23, she says growing up with so many is all she knows.
"We're a lot of people but my parents taught us organization and discipline," she says. "I like it, it's good."
"I've been to my friend's house - an only child," says 15-year-old Alex.
"It's different. Quiet around his house all the time. Not fun. It's not quiet here."
The Ionce family home has seven bedrooms. There are only two bathrooms for the 18 kids.
"It's tough sometimes," says Ioana. "Sometimes there's lineups but we're used to it."
They're also used to being called the wrong name.
"I call a few of them until I find the right person," joked Livia.
Alexandru works in construction, and admits it's not cheap to have a family so large.
"Yeah, it is expensive," he says.
But while money's in short supply, love is not. And even though she's 44-years-old, Livia's not sure she's done.
"I don't know what's happen in the future," she says. "There might be more."
