So I was checking the online statements of one of my three banks, and I noticed that BP had charged me four times for two purchases this weekend. They charged me twice for the fuel and twice for what I purchased inside. Thank god I check that shit everyday. But, how does that happen? Are they trying to pull a fast one or can a mistake like that truly happen? (card was only swiped once for each transaction)
Crooks, tbh.
I think so. I worry about people who do not check their statements every so often.ATG wrote:

Oh, that's different.
You got one fee at the pump and one fee inside and bottom line is the bank probably made more money on the in store purchase than the store.
One key to not getting screwed on fees is to only pull cash from your home branches ATM and use cash for all your buys.
I realized at one point I was getting $40-100 per month in atm fees.

mine does too. up to 6 times a month. but thats still some bullshit. wachovia is the first bank Ive had that has done that.
Just there way of getting their $8 a gallon
It wasn't the gas station, you told that they swiped the card once for each transaction. It probably was a bank mistake, they refund you anyway.
did you double swipe?
Sounds like their system, or the credit card system they outsource, probably double charged everyone card within a time period and you got caught.
do ATMs in the US charge withdrawal?
around here the only ATMs that do that are like in pubs/bars and so on.
that sucks

yep. usually when its not the home branch ATM you are using. the bank you hold your money in wont charge you, but if you use any other ATM, there is a fee.

the ATM fees in kuwait are ridiculous.
I got quadruple charged at a fireworks stand. She said it wasn't going through so she kept on swiping it. Sure enough 4 charges for $150 goes through. It was a fucking headache. I contacted my bank and after filling out a few forms and even learning that the banks have seen a surge in these duplicate charges finally got the money back after 8-10 business days. I almost want to use a credit card for this reason alone. If this had happened using one of their cards, they would have handled it, my cash would have been safe due to the credit card buffer and I wouldn't have been out $600 during bill week.

I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
yep, banks need to take a lesson from credit card companies in that area.

Everything is so automated and convenient nowadays. People should of course be balancing their accounts and checking for errors. I don't know if a major financial institution is deliberately trying to rob marine for less than 100 bucks. Seems like a risky thing to do for a bank. Exactly how would you work that software into a network of thousands of banks and merchants? Every single one of them would have to be in on it. The discrepancy would no doubt be evident. They've got better ways of stealing your money.

Like the f'n overdraft fees the bastards hit me as a direct result to the multiple charges? I did get that reversed though...Kmarion wrote:

i had an issue like that, but it was with my paypal debit card.
exact same thing though....i bought gas outside, cigarettes inside.
duplicate charges...but they were great about it, five minutes on one phone call and everything was sorted.
