Sport scientist Steve Draper from the University of Gloucestershire says drummers have as much stamina as elite athletes.

Article wrote:

Burke, who drums for the veteran band Blondie, was taking part in a long-term study of the effects drumming has on the human body.

A sneak peek at the results was released Thursday, and they're a surprising vote of confidence in drumming as a way to keep fit.

Sport scientist Steve Draper from the University of Gloucestershire, one of two U.K. universities that took part in the study, said drummers have as much stamina as elite athletes.

"The most startling thing for us was when we first got heart rate traces from Clem's concert ... we looked at them, and they could have been a premiership footballer," he said.

Burke and other rock and jazz drummers agreed to wear wires monitoring their heart rates and other physical signs at concerts over the last eight years.

I hate using dragonforce as an example, but try doing the shit their drummer does for 7+ minutes straight, and then do it over again 10 times.

Or, try being 56 and do with 1 bass pedal what most drummers do with 2.

Lets not forget the example in the article is the Blondie drummer, and his repertoire is hardly comparable to the more extreme variants.  I would be hard pressed to find otherwise.

or try walking up hill for 21 miles with 120lbs of gear on your back, not including your weapon, after maybe 1 hour of sleep.  meh.  id rather drum.

They compared drummers to athletes, not soldiers.
Obviously soldiers have much more stamina than a drummer.

People train themselves for different purposes.  Its like how you can say a record sprinter and a marathoner are both excellent athletes, but you cant compare them.
