True, but what if you think that the current age limit for alcohol is bullshit?  I do.  If you're old enough to sign up for the military, you should be old enough to drink.

It would have to be 21.  Also if legealized they would need to figure out a proper way to tax it.  They'd also have to go after home growers if they did that.  Also they'd have to regulate the quality of it.  It'd be an interesting time, but I don't think I'll live to see the day.

You're right about the second part.

The first part is worth arguing because it's easy to point out the stupidity of the law.  Laws should be as logical as possible.

Yep... drive into Chicago it's 21. Drive across the state line into Wisconsin and the legal drinking age is 18 (doesn't matter if you're an Illinois resident with an Illinois drivers license).

No.

But, it is a funny idea - your parents being present so you can get drunk (by law).

The drinking age in the UK is the same as the age you have to attend secondary school.

The image of your parents taking their 18 year old to a bar - to get drunk, made me laugh inside.

But, the answer is no. If you're 18 you're legal to drink in Wisconsin on your own, no matter where you are from.

Section 125.07. Wisconsin prohibits alcohol possession or consumption by people under age 21 unless they are with a parent, guardian, or spouse over age 21

Shit I am operating on a time warp, my bad. It's 21 now (by yourself).

When I was 18 that was the legal drinking age in Wisconsin. That was 27 years ago... oops.

See above.

________

Some trivia:
From 1972 until 1984, it was legal for anyone 18 or older to purchase and drink alcohol. For more than a decade, state legislators tried to boost the age. In 1983, the state passed Wisconsin Act 74, which created a drinking age of 19 and included an "absolute sobriety" provision that made any blood alcohol content illegal for drivers under age 19.

In the summer of 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a law requiring states to conform to a national minimum drinking age of 21. States not in compliance by Oct. 1, 1986, would lose 5 percent of their highway aid allocation during the first year and 10 percent the second year.

Wisc. did used to be 18.  So did everyone else.  The funny part is states can still set their own drinking age limits, but they receive SIGNIFICANT cuts in funding if they drop it under 21...

Wisconsin tried recently to make it 18 again, but the loss in funding would doom them.  They wanted their Iraqi/Afghan Vets who came home who weren't 21 yet to be able to go to a bar and relax the way anyone would...

I hope they do legalize it, but of course problems will arise. However I think more good than bad will come of it.

Anyone see the movie Traffic? It's a great piece and statement on the "war on drugs".

Should it be federally legalized? Sure. Apply state-by-state rules like they do for alcohol. And tax the ever-loving hell out of it.

The only issue with pot that is different than booze is second-hand smoke. There's no such thing as second-hand drinking (eww!). But I have been at concerts where the weed smoke was so thick that you leave there buzzed from just breathing. So someone who's smoking a regular coffin nail could be impaired by someone sitting next to them who's smoking a fatty.

There would almost have to be a separate area for pot smokers...separate from non-smokers and separate from tobacco-only smokers. Which translates to public infrastructure and facilities costs for government and businesses.
