a) Get her psyched for Diablo III.
b) Gothic II > Gothic I/III.
c) Fable: TLC (PC) is a good game. I believe it's been reasonably patched.
d) Elder Scrolls III/IV have some complex aspects, but don't need to be played in that manner.
e) You can find Silverfall and Divine Divinity on the bargain shelves. Of the two, I recommend the latter. I can't think of a worthier 'Diablo' clone. Sadly, no multiplayer.
f) Neverwinter Nights is fairly cheap in a bundle with all the expansions. It's multiplayer, you don't really need to delve into stats too hard to play it, and it will last forever.
g) Pick up a copy of Link to the Past/Four Sword for the GBA and play it on a DS Lite. Four Swords is a decent title, but it's multiplayer only.
h) Overlord is a game that is often funnier than Fable. You run around telling gremlin creatures to kill, loot and pillage. Sometimes you fight, sometimes not.
Edit:
i) As to Silverfall, if you like the idea of technology vs nature outside of Thief, this is your game.
j) The Titan's Quest bundle is a good holdover until Diablo III, if your computer can run it.
k) I of the Dragon is hard to find, but has its own charm. Fly around and level up.
l) The Magic Carpet series is a little old, but worthy. Games that currently boast terrain deformation completely ignore the fact that you were able to do so in this classic. Again, fly around and do stuff.
m) Freedom Force is a simple RPG that emulates old, campy comics and shows. If you want a *POW* *BLAM* title and a character that can pick up a car and chuck it at a mugger, only knocking him out, this is it.
n) Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is a bit closer to a shooter, but its campaign is well-designed for the most part, and it does have superficial RPG elements. It might be worth a look.
o) STALKER, like Dark Messiah, is pretty much a shooter, but actually an RPG in heavy disguise.
n) Advent Rising has to be one of the most story-heavy shooters I've seen. Again with the RPG elements, but was sadly the first of an unfinished trilogy. A pity, what with Orson Scott Card (if I remember right) behind it.
o) Games like 'The Movies' or 'The Sims' might appeal. Spore could also be interesting, as an ultimate RPG of sorts.
p) If she likes violence, 'The Witcher' and 'Fallout 3' would appeal.
q) Old adventure games such as 'Companions of Xanth' and a bunch of Lucasarts titles might be worth a try.
r) To describe Freelancer, I'd have to say 'Diablo in Space.' It's less complicated than the X1-3 series, and quite fun with more than one players. Servers operate like mini-MMO's, and the its freestyle spirit is quite relaxing, until you meet a piratical player who wants your cargo.
s) Dungeon Lords wasn't a hit by any means, but has its own charm. Unfortunately, I exhausted myself on the demo by the time I ordered the full game.
t) Bioshock is essentially a shooter, but is infused with so much story that it feels more like an RPG/movie.
u) Tron 2.0 is perfect for the retro feel. You go through the game getting 'upgrades' for your character, or play several multiplayer modes (cycles, discs, etc.).
v) Hellgate: London is tolerable if you play it with friends all the time. Otherwise it can get dull.
w) Dungeon Keeper 2 plays like an RTS but feels more like an RPG, with your 'fortress' as your character. Evil Genius follows the same formula.
x) Spellforce, if I remember right, is an RPG/RTS. I have the 'Universe' bundle, but never had the time to play it fully.
y) Paraworld follows some of the same lines as Spellforce, and is a bargain title.
When I get back from work, I'll probably have a z). Hope it's not too much of a title flood.

Hey guys,
I´m looking for an action oriented RPG (as the title says, lol)
Reason is, my girlfriend does enjoy pc gaming as well, but not the
stupid shooting, running and dying all the time
like the FPS I play. She enjoys role plays (pun intended
), but nothing as massive or complex as WoW for example.
So I thought, I find us a game, we could play via LAN, since we both got notebooks.
It should be similar to the diablo series. With all the hack ´n´ slay but no deep character development. No need for the isometric perspective too. Anything goes here. And it shouldn´t sport any fancy graphics, cause her notebook is way to crappy for that, although it managed to run Gothic III.
She used to play Diablo II a lot, so she can´t stand it anymore. She´s a big fan of the Gothic series (if some of you know it) though. Shame you can´t play Gothic in multiplayer.
I tried Sacred so far, but it is rather disappointing. As is Hellgate London tbh.
So, if some of you guys know playworthy, action-oriented RPG´s, just name them.
