Ok so first my PS3 games started freezing, reinstalled the game, deleted savegames then it froze during game install so i decided to restore the console. This is what happened:

I could press O and went back but all I could see is black screen.

Now when i turn on the console the green light lights but turns itself off in couple seconds and it says no signal on TV.

Is there a way to reinstall firmware? I have the latest firmware on USb flash key.

What are you using to connect the PS3 to the TV?

Make sure you cut the power by taking the jack out, wait atleast 20 seconds before you power up again ... check that all connections are as they should before you power up and try again ...

Hold the power button(not the one of the PSU at the back of the PS3 - you can't hold that anyway ), the one just beneath the Blu-Ray drive. Hold it for 3 seconds, until it beeps. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

They replaced my unit with a new one, it seems the first one was totally fuxxored. I'll connect it in the evening then its GTA4 time again.

Btw I wanted to ask if anyone who has both PS3 and PC connected to the monitor? If you can give me some input on how does this work. If I have for instance both PS3 and PC on what will displayed on the screen. I'm thinking its going to be whatever is connected through DVI.

sort of the same, i run my xbox and pc through the same screen, just swapping DVI cables atm. i wanna get a DVI splitter though, so i don't have to keep unplugging and replugging

I was thinking of connecting PS3 through VGA and leave PC on DVI. But a splitter might be a better idea, the signal would certainly be better but it needs to be a high quality splitter otherwise the picture will be grainy.

You can't connect your PS3 to a VGA port. The best thing to do. Connect your PC to your VGA port, let's be honest, there is no difference between the two. And connect your PS3 to your DVI port.
