What would you guys call a business where anyone could go, with either their computer, or pay to use a computer to play online games over the net or in a lan?

I want to see if there's anything like this here in Dallas, but I can't think of what it would be called.

Nah, wouldn't really be a cafe. I tried those and found some, but its all like coffee shops and shit.

I don't know how well that would work as a stand-alone business these days. Wifi and broadband are everywhere. I think a better business idea would be to lease/sell gaming rigs to arcades. People already go there to play games, now they'd be able to play BF2 along with Time Crisis 4. Leasing is probably a better idea, then you could add a service contract with annual or biannual upgrades along with it.

Remember that you owe me 10% of your profits. I live in Bedford, so I'll hear about it if you do it.

A big one near me has over 200 computers and like 30 XBox 360's. I've been in there on a Saturday where the place is jam packed with people from open 'til close. It can be viable, but I'm sure there are a lot of factors in creating a sucessful business out of it.

They do a good job of sponsoring all kinds of tourneys and teams for many games, which is great for keeping people interested.

I don't know. I know I'm tired of the corporate lifestyle. I know that the only way to be happy is to be my own boss. Internet cafe's aren't numerous at all in Dallas, as I've honestly never seen one anywhere. I'm sure it'd be expensive to start up, but, shit, make it good enough and people will come. Sure, they can get 10mb internet at home, but can they get the same satisfaction out of playing with 50+ others in the same room? I have some ideas as to what to incorporate into the business, but I lack the creativity to think up building designs and I probably couldn't put a computer together on my own. I have business and management smarts, just not that hands on experience in the computer field.

Its either this, or open my own movie theatre, but God knows I don't really want to get back into that!

I have a gaming computer and still go to the 'net cafes around here all the time. Nothing like flying a chopper with your gunner sitting right next to you while looking at the commander's screen on the other side of you.

It's called a LAN center, and there are quite a few of them in the Dallas area. There are at least three smallish ones in Plano, and apparently there is one run by a pro CS team in Dallas where a pretty damn good (going into CAL-i) team goes to play/practice/scrim sometimes.
