Hi

Just got an Asus P5KC and I have a few issues I'd like a bit of a hand with

OK.

1. There is a constant high pitched whining from it, as well as ticking from the motherboard, and whenever i move the mouse another noise is made from the motherboard.

2. This thing doesn't like to overclock ... for example yesterday I bumped the fsb from 333 to 350, ran orthos and less than 5 minutes in it froze. If I bump the fsb from 333 to 400 with a vcore of 1.32 and leave the ram as it is it'll save, reboot then the screen sits on standby til I reboot again and the mobo displays an overclocking failed message.

Do I need to rma this and use a 3rd mobo for this build?!

thanks

going from 333 to 400 FSB is a huge jump, that is probably the source of your problems overclocking. Try going in small increments, 5mhz or so each time.

What CPU do you have?

Also, the noises are probably not from the motherboard but from a fan or something. Motherboards have no onboard sources for sound, unless you hooked up the speaker, in which case, disconnect it.

E8400 and I'm sure the noises are coming from the mobo else why would there be another pitch of noise occur when i move the mouse? Speaker isn't hooked up.

Also, some motherboards make noises. It's just poor-quality PWM.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I assume you guys saw that it's unstable raising the FSB from 333 to 350 also?

Well for one, your Vcore is very high for that processor. The range is 0.8-1.365v, so you are almost at the highest rated voltage that it can handle without causing damage.

Oh no, mb, i only upped the vcore for the 400fsb. For the 350 fsb vcore is stock
