Hi my parents computer has a REALLY old graphics card a RADEON 9200SE, its drivers haven't been updated ever!  So how do I go about doing this?  Do I have to delete the current drivers before installing new ones?  I am a bit of a computer noob so a step by stepish guide through the process would be amazing and I would be very grateful.

Thanks

1st step: Open start menu - settings - control panel. Open "add or remove programs". Find Ati drivers and uninstall them. Reboot.
2nd step: Download http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 . Install it and remove all ati stuff with it. Reboot.
3rd step: Download the right driver from here: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html . Install the driver.

Right click on My Computer (icon)
Select Manage
Select Device Manager
Find the Display Adapter(video card)
Select your video card
Right click on your video card
Select update driver

If there is an update for your card, it will go out and find it.

ok thankyou very much.

The computer has 2.7 Ghz CPU, 1.256 GB DDR RAM, RADEON 9200 SE graphics card, 128MB video memory.

Is there any chance it will run bf2?

BF2 used to run on the 8500, but then they 'optimised' the game in a patch

Shut up.

The 9200 series cards do run BF2, but at a very low framerate. I have a Mobility 9200 in my lappy, and I get <30FPS in BF2, with the card heavily overclocked. The 9200SE is way lower clocked than the Mobility 9200.

In short, yes, it'll run, but it won't run good.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Lol, it will not find the newest driver. I would not update display driver via windows, other devices maybe.

It depends on what kind you get, my friend got a 256MB 9250 for the PCI bus and it didn't work with BF2.

I've heard someone here say that before but they didn't mention this "optimization" that came with a patch.  I find it hard to believe that card would do it, since it's a DX8 card.
