I was on here and msn. Don't know what happened. Talking to someone, and on my screen in green letters came up saying:

"PLAY / PAUSE"

Then my PC sort of blacked out. You know when you log off and it goes blue with the logging off message. Well, it said "Preparing to..." I couldn't catch it, it was too fast. You know how the taskbar and everything goes away? Well it did this too.

So the screen went blank, and the monitor was still on. The computer making no noise, but the light on the "On/Off" button was on. So i pressed it, and it started whirring up. But indstead of anything, withe text came up, i didn't have time to read it, but i saw 256MB. Then, i reached down to press my hard reset button, but it flashed back to the exactsame screen as before, MSN signed out, but signed me back in moments later.

So, Virus, or graphicscard issue, as i think my card is 256MB. Scanning as i type.

sure you didn't accidentally hit some sort of keyboard shortcut or function key?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Not sure. More than likely, my keyboard has all sorts of shortcut buttons, but would PLAY/PAUSE cause my PC to black out?

Shortcut on your keyboard most likely.  I've done that a few times.   If you have a multimedia keyboard, that is probably want happened.

My laptop sometime goes into hibernation by itself, just like that.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

When battery is low. It can be disabled. All laptops have this on on default.

Also happens on AC. I have my laptop set to warn me before shutting down.

AC, as on 230 volts. Power adaptor. Charger. And it happens all of a sudden, just like that. Nothing I'm even gonna bother researching, as it's probably just the Windows install that's fucked up, and I get my new lappy in a couple of days.

That's an option you can turn off under the power options in control panel just like you can tell the computer what to do when you press the power button, e.g. power off, hibernate, log off, etc.
