also are the power info thingy ok on the bottom??
erm, if it's really showing the correct readings, what do you think?

Does having a reading of 1.47V on the +12V and -16.64V on the -12V lines sound right to you?

Now, before you go and think "OH NOES, my PSU must be well fucked", this is why I recommend using a proper multi-meter to test voltages - believe me, if those readings were actually correct, your PC would be showing much worse symptoms than it is.

Now, I'm finding it hard to believe one fan is causing the problems. Fans don't draw that much juice - much less than the difference between idling and 100% CPU load...
i only ever get problems when i have all 3 fans connected, my computer only restarts when it tries o run anything 3D, be it games or video stress tests.

how do i use a multi metre to test my voltages???

diagrams/links will help

also will a 600W PSU be enough for my computer

Yes, but just do the second part on that page (testing the voltages whilst the computer is on (and under load) via a molex) - the exact settings the multi-meter needs setting to vary from multi-meter to multi-meter, but most importantly it needs to be set to DC.

thanks, will do it and post the results.

I've read the topic and it indeed looks like your PSU is the problem. Never buy non-brand dirt cheap PSU's.

PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, first, i put the red connector in the top port(10 ADC) and the black in the bottom(COM). double checked with my dad and he said it fine.

OK, My Computer was on when i just checked it and under no load. now i put the black connector in the middle of the molex and the red on the right end(5V) and my computer switched off and wouldn't start. I switced of the computer at the mains, turned it back on and the computer has started.

why did this happen??

ok, tried it on a different molex and again my computer switched off. But this time i put the red connector in the 12V and it switched back on.

is the multi meter set correct, as mnetioned its on 20V left, with the red connector in the top port and the black on the bottom port!!!!!

ok, im going to return the PSU tbh, its a pain and now COD4 doesn't want to work with 2 fans connected. its becoming a joke

WOAH!

It so shouldn't do that!!!!

Are you sure you've got the multi-meter on the right setting???

OH, just read last line, yeah, we're pretty darn certain it is the PSU, return it. If it turns out to not be that that's the problem, no harm done.

ok, i have noticed you can check your volts in bios.

https://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm101/Rammunition1/Picture042-1.jpg

the 3.3v is a bit high

and my system temp is higher than my CPU, as mentioned i believe it shouldn't be like that

not sure if its right, but its on 20 V top left on the multi meter shown and the red connector on the top connector port and the black on the bottom

ok, just come back home. tried to play COD4. It works for 2-3 minutes before restarting. Tried it twice and got the same results.

so i decide to try and play DOD:S and it played ok for 2-3 minuted before restarting on me. I only have 2 case fans connected aswell.

Indeed you can, but the BIOS doesn't stress the system - which ideally you need to do.

HOWEVER:

rammunition wrote:

It's not a bit high, it's TOO HIGH (refer to my table, in much much earlier post).

Like so?

If so, and given the OUT OF SPEC 3.3v, switch the PC off, remove the PSU, box it up, and RMA it ASAP.

lol, the multi meter is set as you have edited. O well. might as well start sorting something out on Ebuyer with the return. This was the first ever "extra value" item i have ever bought and sure will be my last.

going to get this PSU

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127861

also, i have never returned a item on Ebuyer, what should i say was the reason for return. As they do test the items

now this gets funny. I just transferred GTA san andreas from my old P.C to this new one. Lauched the game. Was playing it for 2-3 minutes and all of a sudden the computer restarted.

Surly now san andreas wouldn't restart because of a PSU issue???

also, i went into control panel a few days ago and unchecked the box that restarts your computer if you get a hardware failure(hoping to see a BSOD) and yet, my computer has restarted over a dozen times since and never showed a BSOD.

does this rule out a hardware failure???

should i return my GPU aswell just as a precaution???

lol. ok, i have switched off that P.C and am on my "back up". will remove the PSU before i go to bed.

back up is an AMD athlon 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, ati x200 and a 250mb hd. was going to give this computer to my other sister for internet/word documents but she will have to wait a bit.

Good. The problem with broken PSUs is they can fuck over just about everything else in the PC. You'll probably be OK, but it's always best to be cautious.

ok, there is nothing on the PSU except voltages and rails. But on the box it was given in there is the barcode with some other numbers

is any of these numbers the serial number???

Hmm... None of them look like a serial number, they're usually labelled 'S/N:' or similar.

When did you buy it?
