Good?

I suck at choosing cars, and my needs keep changing, so I need to get a car I will actually LIKE, ENJOY, and most of all... NOT BREAK EVERY FUCKING MILE. caps lock = cool.

Been looking into an '00 to '02 VW Golf. Just wondering if anyone has actual experience with them, or a suggestion for a better alternative, high fuel mileage non hybrid fun to drive car. lolsentence.

he is an automotive enthusiast, and to this day swears that his golf was the best every day driver he had ever owned.
hes looking at getting a new one pretty soon.

I had a 2.0 Jetta and wish I would have got the turbo, but great driving car. I have a 02 Accord V6 nd both my wife and I hate it. I think we are going to trade it in for a Hybrid.

The VW Golf. I own a Mk. II. Have driven a Mk. III and IV. They drive great, they look timeless. And on top of that they are build on the chassis of the German Panzer tanks, therefore close to indestructible. My Mk. II is almost 20 years old and hasn't got even the smallest bit of rust on it.

VW's are build to last. Getting one is an investment in a proper car which you will drive for years to come. On top of that, you will never want to switch to an asian car again

Ummm, no he asked what liter model he got... Other then old American iron we give all our displacements in liters...

I have no experience with VW, but every automotive forum I am on treats the new ones are ridiculously unreliable... I hear almost nothing but horror stories...

G20's will probably be reliable enough, but I would think if I owned one I would just be praying for it to break down so I wouldn't have to drive it anymore. Those cars come with plenty of boring.

I dunno what you are looking for in a car, but if you want a decent gas sipping commuter that will be reliable, and fun enough to drive....
I <3 early 90's accords. They are so fun to drive for what they are.

I'd own a VW if it was under factory warranty. Beyond that, you're taking a gamble. It's not that they, or any European car, are inherently unreliable, but they can be extremely expensive to repair. The maintenance isn't too expensive but one major repair and you'll wanna open up an artery.

Last week we had a 2002 Volkswagen in the shop. Had an emissions malfunction. $1500 later, the check engine light stayed off and all we replaced was a plastic air pump that only runs for 20 or 30 seconds of each warm-up drive cycle. The pump alone was $1000, before mark up. And this chunck of plastic isn't even directly involved in engine performance, just emissions.

Not trying to scare you but be prepared for big out of pocket expenses without a factory warranty.

we had a vw beetle (the old one), a vw jetta (the old one), a vw polo, an audi 80 and now we have a vw lupo, a vw passat and an audi a 4

we never had any problems with these cars. so, whatever car you are going to buy, buy a german car. german engineering ftw!

Very good, try to go for a mk5 golf, they mk4 was pretty heavy and not too powerful, whereas the mk5 is quicker, with even better economy. good build quality, good interior, nice ride, nice engine choice, very reliable.

ford focus are meant to be quite good to drive also cheaper than the golfs.

plus you can buy volvo and some mazda parts seen as there engines are used in fords.

dude swapping in a sr20ve or det will end the boring pretty fast. car and driver magazine rated them as worlds top ten best handling car

As long as you don't get the diesel kind you should be good. The car is so small and light that you will feel it rattle when you're at a stop light. Sure it also gets like 40 MPG but what good is that when Diesel is 5¢ under 5$

Mileage is around the same, a little moar pricey. But you get Subaru's legendary AWD. I know the WRXs are fast, don't know about the base model Imprezas though.
