Laptop wont boot up

Hey guys i recently got my brothers wifes' laptop and when i turn it on it will sometimes go to a screen that says

Press F1 to Resume or F2 to setup

It only happens when i remove the battery tho. If i keep the battery in it will instantly go to a black screen.
I know its a hard drive problem because i took it out and put it into another laptop and it did the same thing.
I would boot it in safe mode but i can't find that option.

Any idea's?

Sounds more like a Windows problem. Reformat.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Yea i thought about it. But its broken because it was thrown across the room. Is there anyway i can get her data off before i reinstall xp? I really dont wanna go to geek squad and pay 100 bucks

usually you see that when a laptop is resuming from hibernation. what happens if you press F1 or F2?

if you think the computer is dead, buy a 2.5" usb external enclosure for laptop drives. they work good.

F1 brings it to a black screen and F2 does nothing.
