Well then they can easily replace you with someone who feels the other way, that is why it is a privilege to work for a company, because they have the power to replace you, but they choose not too.

and no company in the world is going to be "up front and honest."  they don't owe it to you.  its their prerogative to handle matters as they see fit.

If you can sniff his traffic, how hard is it to just SPAN/mirror/whatever the port to a box with tcpdump or wireshark with a bittorrent dissector running on it? You never really answered whether or not the traffic you're seeing is encrypted. Even if it is, do check the dump for source ports known to be default in bittorrent clients. That'll typically do it.

Alternatively, if you have local admin and you can snap his machine into MMC, why not just change the local group policy to allow network logons?

we know the traffic is torrent... we just want to actually find the files on his hard drive.  and the local policy already allows our admin accounts to access his machine over the network, he just changed the permissions on his c: drive to block our access.  but that isnt necessarily bad by itself, so we want to covertly connect to his machine to see what is there.

i think im going to proceed as jsnipy suggested... create a new account on the domain, and modify the network policy to allow this account to connect to the computer.  its a pain in the ass, but unfortunately is about all we can do at this point... if all else fails, a live CD will let us peek at the hard drive, i just hope he isnt trying to remote in when we do it.

too much sneaking around.  I say confront him directly but politely about it and have a copy of the infringement letter with you.  Ask him if hes sharing torrents, then tell him to stop and delete them and the software from the computer while you stand there and watch him do it.  Explain the seriousness of the issue.  If he is polite and apologetic then thank him for his honesty on this issue and give him a verbal warning which is documented in his personnel file. If he refuses, then confiscate the computer and hack into it however you want, while you assign him a new job like sweeping floors while HR types up his termination papers.

Exactly. Tell your manager that that's the easiest way. How hard can it be to ask? If he has nothing to hide, neither of you have anything to lose.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

So, any new developments? I want to know if this guy gets busted or what.

Also, how did Warn Bros. figure out who was downloading the movie, is it possible to find anyone by doing that or what?
