ermmm, you see, i am not a point whore, thats the sad thing, i siad useless post coz this will start a rant and nobody cares if ppl want points or not, just play the game and take no notice of the point whore (not saying they are bad) i completely respect them, so what if they like to get points? is that not allowed? im sorry is that not in your rule book?

I think points and stuff are the main part of the game, without points and awards then the game would not have been as popular. To answer your question- For people who like to play games a lot, they want something to show for it. Counter strike or any of the other popular fps games dont have much except for ranks on servers that disappear after a month. Bf2 shows how great you are / how you dont have much of a life outside gaming

So you don't realise that "points, ranks and awards" add another element to the gameplay?

For me, it's a goal to achieve in the game.  I would get bored of the same maps and such over and over again, just killing people.  With the awards, it has something for me to shoot for.  Otherwise I'd only play when my friends are on, maybe once a week.  That's when I forget about the points and just have a blast (especially if they're on the other team!)  My 200+ hours would be a lot closer to 20 if there were no awards.
