Been hearing a lot of favoritism for Chinese athletes in judged events. Have heard of many complaints from other nations. One thing is for sure, China is winning a lot of medals. Their athletes look strong, their females athletes look male. I have not heard of any Chinese athletes caught for doping, even though many don't look very human. Has anyone one else noticed that most Chinese  athletes upon winning medals don't look particularly happy. Is it because they subconsciously feel like slaves. We all know about 5 year old gymnasts who are removed from their family's and are sent far away to special training camps. Many get to see their families once or twice a year. Olympics of the slaves!

China's top swimmer Ouyang Kunpeng was banned for life from competitions due to steroids.  He was caught six weeks before the Olympics started.

Don't ya feel bad for whoever comes 4th. You know they've spent the last 5 years of their life training for it and eating healthy food to not even get a medal.

Russia has been doing this with their athletes (look at their gymnasts) since the past forever. No one complaints about it... it's not against Olympic rules to actively encourage and produce bright young athletes and sporting stars. Ever considered the possibility of them "not looking happy" is down to them being modest and humble? Stereotypical characteristics of the Chinese people- why does it have to be that they're some evil race of slaves under totalitarian control, greeding all of your American gold medals? They're dedicated, they train hard, and there's no real substantial basis to suspect Chinese athletes of doping more so than any other country. Didn't the entire American relay team get barred from competing and stripped of their old medals for doping? America doesn't 'enslave' its athletes... maybe all that freedom, democracy and free choice is dangerous .

Honestly. I think you're reading into things too much with your silly politics again, why do they creep into every thread? Just acknowledge the superior athleticism of certain individuals, e.g. that Chinese female weightlifter who magnificently made the 138kg Olympian record earlier- made the Silver medallist (previous record-breaker) look silly with her 131kg in comparison!

You said that I'm reading too much into this with my silly politics. Do I know you? I know you don't know me. Don't suppose you know my political views, because you definitely don't. Just because its not illegal and not that many people complain about athletic slavery doesn't make it alright. Your defense of this is shocking. For the record, I am not giving a definitive answer and have no specific evidence for my statements. That's why they are statements and questions to begin with. There is no doubt that there are hypocrisy's at play and something fishy going on. You say the Chinese are dedicated and train hard, so that's why they win. I wonder how many athletes from your country would kick you in the mouth for saying that. The difference may be that your British athletes like elsewhere have lives with careers and other interests. Being a Chinese athlete is a full time job, supported and supervised by the People's Party leaving little possibility for individuals to pursue other avenues of interest. Never-the-less China is a beautiful country, been there many times, my grand-father is from Hong-Kong and grand-mother from Macau and so am familiar with and appreciate the culture. That's not going to stop me from criticizing China, my own country nor anywhere else that I believe is unjust and wrong. That doesn't say much for my political views that you seem to know so much about. It is only evident that I believe in liberty and individual freedoms.

Reality check: British athletes train and do it full time as well.

I could care less if British athletes would "kick me in the mouth" for the controversial and shocking suggestion that some Chinese athletes just have trained hard to represent their country in Beijing- you know, as a matter of personal and national pride. No drugs involved, no forced slavery, nothing fictional basically. I'd be more inclined to kick them in the mouth for floating into these events high on their ego's and the losing to random strangers from Taipei... cough.

I didn't mention what part of the political spectrum you represented either, I said you were being too political with this whole "China forces their athletes to train 25 hours a day and makes them ingest 101 different types of steriod and performance-enhanging drugs ra-ra-ra" rhetoric. I never once said "Yo Nantan, stop being so Centrist about this issue! Quit being so Leninist in your approach to the 100metre sprint!". So keep your nancy little neoconservative pants on.

Edit: That last part was a joke, I figure I should point this out before you drop another obscure-and-pointless-tangent-bomb on me again.

Don't worry, 1,300,000,000 plus Chinese would be itching to kick me in the mouth for my original comments. But that's all they were and no where have I suggested that this doesn't happen any where else. I did start my original post by simply stating what I had heard, what people were complaining about and what is common knowledge. Maybe I should have rephrased it differently, but I was intending on learning more about why people seem to suggest China has an unfair advantage. I assumed Athletic Slavery could be an issue. Sorry, I didn't mean to annoy you with "silly politics". Isn't that what the Chinese authorities say every time someone questions their human rights record. Ok, I'm just kidding.

As for... "No drugs involved, no forced slavery, nothing fictional basically. I'd be more inclined to kick them in the mouth for floating into these events high on their ego's and the losing to random strangers from Taipei... cough." ...Touche.

"China forces their athletes to train 25 hours a day and makes them ingest 101 different types of steriod and performance-enhanging drugs ra-ra-ra"
-ah, did I say this or did you? 25 hours, really?

I'm not really disagreeing with you. I'm in the mouth kicking mood. Maybe I should go over to my grand-dads place and have him kick me in the mouth.

Nantan, there is a thread if you want to debate the politics of the Olympics. Find it. This one is about the superficial side of the Olympics, we don't want yo messin' it up yo.

Off topic:
What do you guys think about Phelps chances in the men's 200m freestyle final? I personally think Vanderkaay or even Park have a better chance, dunno.
...and yes, I know that there are no Chinese in this event.
