The idea is to get us through the transition to renewable energy. There is a serious movement now, albeit long overdue. I see these "Turn your Home into a solar home" commercials all the time now. Some claim that the government will reimburse the cost of conversion .

We will start to use our own oil in our own refineries. Again, it's all about speculation and sending a message to the market that we are serious about getting off the Saudi Sauce in the future.

We don't need "a quick fix". There is absolutely no shortage of oil now. Price has gone up over the last year do to the speculation of an increasing demand in China/India. They were predicting a future shortage. When a person purchases a commodity they buy it and hope there won't be much available in the future. The best thing that could happen to the speculators is an extended ban. The immediate drop in the cost per barrel is a direct result of Bush making the move to lift the ban. You can track it to the exact day.
