hahah.. unbelievably idealistic and naive. The whitewashed notion of "friends and allies" doesnt exist. It's simply national interest.
If the reports of US "humanitarian" missions are true, then I guess either it is a:
1. A symbolic display that will do nothing and achieve nothing practical.
or 2. A last-ditch attempt to reinforce the western friendly Saakashvili government and prevent the Russians/or Georgian citizens from overthrowing the government and at the same time reassure other Western leaning former Soviet states to not concede and be reintegrated into the Russian sphere of influence.
It is highly likely that South Ossetia and Abhkazia will be annexed via DMZs and possible reunited into the Russian Federation.
