I hope anyway.
One dollar?

I mean, C'mon.

Next they'll be giving them to illegals as they cross the border.

This house at 8111 Traverse in Detroit has been stripped of its siding, plumbing, copper wiring, hot water tank and furnace. Desperate to sell, the bank that owns it has put it up for sale for $1.
I wouldn't say house, more like foundation.

But it's a sign of the very bad times ahead.

You couldn't pay me to live in that house.

Hopefully they stay somewhat low for another year or two, when I will probably be looking to buy.  Not in Detroit though.

I would have bought it and resold it.

Every market is different. One dollar is mandatory here for a transfer of title (and obviously in MI).  I've seen a few one dollar sales when people are essentially giving the house away to a friend etc..

It wouldn't have sold and you would have been stuck paying taxes on the appraised value. That's determined by the county property appraiser, and it would be a lot more than a dollar.

house market has collapsed here too, just heard a guy I know aged 44 stuck a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger yesterday as he invested everything he has in a house building venture and pretty much lost everything..

It's only people like you who are screwed by this Housing crisis shit. The people that buy houses just to sell them again to net a healthy profit. Otherwise the low house prices are awesome for people who actually want to buy a house to live in it. It's just that the media make it seem like it's a massive crisis because they're all idiots.

I don't think an illegal would even buy it c'mon its Detroit unless by a factory that hires "anyone". Detroit doesn't sound inviting right now 1 dollar or not I'm afraid of walking at a mall a group of thugs would come up to say what hood O represent and knowing myself I'll say "IOWA BITCH", but anyways im getting off topic no i'm not convince in living in Detroit just for what can i find their as means of a job and also I still want to finish college in Iowa, but nice find ATG.

I love how people in here think they know what is going on in Detroit strictly by reading something on the internet. I was just in Detroit yesterday, right around the area of this home and there are many other reasons why this house might not be looked at. Yes, there are areas in EVERY city that you would not want to buy and settle a family. To be honest, in the article it says it was the nicest home on the block when it was bought for 65,000.....what.....are you serious??? If that was the nicest then of course it was already crap and the other homes are as worthless as this one. Who would want to buy this home when everyone around you is worse, you lose money as soon as you sign.

Anyhow, there is a ton of new construction going on in downtown Detroit (commercial construction, infrastructure) it took forever to get where we needed to go and downtown may be trash but all the areas around the downtown are very high end communities. This house is a rare example and I am sure you could find houses like this in all large cities. Yes, Michigan has been hit hard, unemployment is the highest here but you can thank our Democratic leadership for the situation we are in. If you want to see what will happen if Obama becomes president, look no further than Michigan. Our leadership is all Dems and they have driven us into a nice hole because they need money and "tax and spend" is their solution as always. The Michigan leadership here is horrendous.
