The further you get from civilization, the more conservative things get, and the more there is legitimate need for guns the more respect they are treated with. Closer to the city where you've got gun control liberals who don't know which way the bullet comes out and crack dealers that just know the magic fire comes out the end with the hole.

You do realize that the teachers who carry must have a CCW license, a license from the district, training in crisis management, and use frangible ammunition, don't you? Even those who ONLY have the CCW license are more than 5 times less likely the the "average joe" to be convicted of ANY crime. If you look at Texas statistics (also what the 5x stat is based off) you will notice that the vast majority (of the tiny amount) of crimes committed by CCW holders are not even related to firearms or violence.

This school expects a police response time of 30 minutes or more. It only makes sense to have armed security, given the sheriff will not be able to respond in a timely manner. Since the district is so small, hiring armed security would be challenging economically. Since Texas issues permits to carry concealed handguns, why not take advantage of teachers who know how to carry and are legally permitted to carry a handgun?

And for those who say, "what if the students get a hold of it?"...how exactly does anyone get their hands on a firearm that is holstered and hidden on another person? It would involve assaulting an armed and trained person...sounds pretty dumb eh?

honestly concealed firearms should be allowed on campus (if you got the proper license for it) if some kid goes into school with his gun who's going to stop him unless they got the scanners at the front door. i'd rather have a trained teacher with a handgun that i know who can take care of the situation and that i know that i can trust than having kids assaulting the schools and nobody having any means of retaliation against the maniac.
