How many weapons do you think will go missing in the first year?

When I was in Grade 8, our teacher (who was also year coordinator) bashed one of the students in front of the whole class. We found out later that he had lost his own son, although I dont know why. He totally lost control, and although the kid he bashed was a total shit head, he really didnt deserve what he got. He did this to one other kid at a later time too.
There was probably no reason why this teacher couldnt get a gun license as I dont know of any complaints against him ( we were all scared shitless therefore didnt complain). I sure as hell wouldnt like him to have a gun at the time. What are the chances of a few other teachers being in a similar position. Probably pretty good.

A little fear is good for students. Respect may follow.Burwhale the Avenger wrote:

Seriously, you have to pass a background check as well as take a class in the state of Texas to qualify for a CCW. A person with the kind of volatile temper you describe would most likely have a history before now. It is unlikely that the first time someone would snap for the very first time. Historically, very, very few CCW holders have been found "at fault" in shooting incidents. The only questionable shootings by CCW holders have been in the areas of self defense, where there was some question as to whether the threat was retreating or not. I think the situation you are concerned about to be a very, very small odds.
Well, there are 11 university and college campuses in the US that allow students and faculty with licenses to carry. There have been zero CCW related shootings, zero thefts, zero cases of brandishing, etc.kylef wrote:

Let's bring it down to this question: do you think it is safer to have trained, licensed, armed teachers, or would you rather wait for over a half hour for police to respond during an attack?
Also note, warning systems (i.e. metal detectors, cameras, backpack searches, etc) are useless if you have no means to counter an armed aggressor.
If you think guns aren't the solution to a violent attacker, why is it the first people you call are the ones with guns?

Better then giving them Tasers.
There is something seriously wrong with your society when students and/or teachers needs to bring a gun to school ...RAIMIUS wrote:

There are school shootings in all sorts of societies all over the world. It sucks, sure, but not everyone can be born mentally healthy.Varegg wrote:

Yep, the problem is not in "american society" specifically, but in human nature. The capacity for violence that is inherent in humans is definitely a double bladed sword.Varegg wrote:

An interesting side article discussing the benefits of having a gun can be found here: http://munchkinwrangler.blogspot.com/20 … ation.html
I highly recommend reading it.
Norway is quite a miniature US in Europe, we have adopted absolutely all aspects of the American way .... except your fascination and use of guns, not that we don't own guns cause we have more guns pr citizen than most countriesDefiance wrote:

No, you would like to think you have taken the best concepts of American society and left out the bad, but without taking it as a whole you have missed exactly what makes this country what it is. Our belief that the freedom of the individual brings about the betterment of the whole is at the core of our society, and our beliefs on the right to bear arms is fundamental to that core. You have what is self-proclaimed much closer to a socialistic society than ours, and that sort of government handicap placed on the people is directly contradictory to what makes the U.S. the U.S.Varegg wrote:

^^ That post deserves 10K karma.
In all honesty, you have one of the best systems in the world. I'd love to visit Norway some day, but for the time being, I can't afford it.Varegg wrote:

Still, the key here is that you guys don't need guns precisely because you're in a better situation. Norway is a hell of a lot safer than the U.S. We need guns... trust me. If you ever visit a place like Baltimore, you'll understand why.
The reason we exist as a nation is because we were "paranoid" about keeping possession of them.Varegg wrote:

So, I'm guessing you trust your government to save you, should someone attack you...or do you just chalk it up to an unfortunate situation that results in permanent disability or death? In the US, the government does not take responsibility for protecting the individual. In fact, they denied that responsiblity in Supreme Court rulings (which makes sense, since they can't be everywhere).
Even the Dalai Lama thinks it is reasonable to shoot back at someone trying to kill you...but there is a really important piece of hardware required to do so.

it's a shame in this day in age when a Teacher/Professor need's to carry a firearm, but so be it. Im all for it honestly, with the proper checks in place, background, mental evaluation, the whole process. Otherwise no, a teacher with a firearm in class should be go through the same thing's a Airline pilot with a gun would.
What next? Give the crossing lady and Uzi?
Teaching is a very stressful job with teachers every bit able to flip out as the students are.........

The Javelin requires a lock to fire, RPG can simply be shot, thus making it more effective against cars. Also the RPG can be reloaded while in order to shoot the javelin again, you need another Javelin.FatherTed wrote:

I'm a little confused. Where did he describe anything even remotely close to mentioning socialism or a disbelief in individual freedom? All he said is they've copied our culture, but have less shootings. That's it. You just inferred the rest. I don't know if it was based on previous conversations with him or some internal bias, but I'm assuming you wouldn't think they missed what makes this country great if they had taken the right to bear arms and left out the push for gun control. You can't argue that it's not part of the culture or those laws wouldn't exist. No picking and choosing here.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

And RPGs are cheaper... remember, we have to keep track of costs. But the cop at the metal detector gets a flamethrower.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

self-described meant that in previous encounters he has said that his country is more socialized compared to the U.S.chittydog wrote:
