That, and the fact that the Georgian government is still in place, Russia isn't occupying the entire country, Saakashvili isn't hanging from the end of a rope, etc.
It's a hell of a lot easier to pull out if you're not having to occupy the entire country and re-establish governance and whatnot. Little differences like that.

You can't start jumping around on the timeline.
Doesn't matter. Every country on the planet has and will do what's in it's best interest at that time. If someone turns their back on a previous supporter there will be consequences. Things change, get out of the mentality that says what is true today will and forever be the same.sergeriver wrote:

Of course we should have never messed around in the region. I'm not advocating intervention, but rather explaining the importance of historical context when passing judgment.

You know, I've thought a lot about this. All I have to say is: Michael Phelps.
Lol, you're comparing this to Iraq. What are you "20" years old? This would be more like the US attacking Mexico than leaving after a week after having subjugated it for over 50 years in the past (for the sake of comparing).sergeriver wrote:
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said forces will begin withdrawing from Georgia on Monday.
Or today for them. Almost as fast as the US from Iraq.

No historical context needed to know the US intervention in Iraq was wrong, and it wasn't in your best interests and you know that, that's why you didn't support it.Kmarion wrote:

Why do you think so many Democrats have reversed their opinion? The facts involved have changed. Context is always needed.sergeriver wrote:

Why point us to the HOF....who cares...you could have stated your age here simply and because your age shows up there doesn't mean squat.....it's as good as a Chinese passport and that isn't saying much.sergeriver wrote:

People in here need to realize something. When there has been wars in the past and even now, when the initial war is won and a new government has to be developed (whether it was right or wrong) it isn't going to happen over night. How long did it take for the German and Japanese governments to develop under occupation.....as long or longer than what is going on in Iraq. How hard is that to understand?? Georgia's government was not removed, Russia was showing its muscle because it finally had an opportunity to do so. Georgia is still in power and Russia is leaving. This scenario is not even close to what happened in Iraq. You simply cant compare them, maybe cosmetically but not much else.
