Judged events are always rubbish in terms of fairness. Pity our girls had to be subjected to the most garbage of such rules (friggin third level tie break/starting point values). I think a true tie-break should have em redo the routine to see the best of the two, or do a dance-off. The starting point value is complete crap. Theoretically, you can create a routine with a start value of 50 by including techniques like floating and 360 face-plants. You can then completely fail the execution, get a 0 for execution points and still score a helluva high average.
The only conceivable way to have a "fair" gymnastic competition is if the routines were standardized and each gymnast can be compared with one another through the same moves and thus the point deduction system would be solid and indisputable. But that'll never happen, w/e. Just my 2 cents.
