I tend to snap only when false accusations and stupid claims get thrown around in a serious thread. Be it Spanish related or not.

Your lovely sarcasm doesn't help Serge. It really doesn't.

Seriously your habit of defending anything and everything even related to Spain is seriously starting to piss me off. You can't even do it nicely, you always fucking retort to insulting someone when they say anything bad. Seriously, fuck Spain. There, I said it. Gibraltar will never be given back too.

Why does Zimmer have a track record of being pro-Spain anyway? I missed that memo (not meaning to imply that he is, just asking why there are so many accusations thereof).

I don't think most air-accidents caused by pilot error or mechanical failure have anything to do with the country/airport they take place in anyway. Perhaps an airline's engineers and maintenance staff are sub-standard- but aren't a lot of airlines just rent-only? I wasn't aware that every airline in operation actually owns and maintains their own aircraft. May be the case with Spanair though... I haven't looked into it at all. I wouldn't really like to argue and debate over the pedantic details surrounding the death of 150 people.

Spanair Incidents and accidents
Main article: Spanair Flight 5022
On 20 August 2008 at 14:45 CEST, a Spanair McDonnell Douglas MD-82 aircraft registration EC-HFP - flight number JK5022 crashed with 166 passengers and 6 crew on board moments after take-off from Terminal 4 of Madrid's Barajas Airport runway 36L on a flight to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Only 19 of the 172 on board have been accounted for as survivors.
This quote from wikipedia describes the only incident Spanair have had since they started flights in 1988, so until yesterday it must have been considered to be a very safe airline.

@Zimmer: You have a tendency to snap a little when something Spanish is being critisized.

@Sergeriver: Don't know where you have your information from about Spanair but you should know better than throwing accusations around without better proof than your own opinion. Also i suspect you might have mistaken Spanair for Spantax that was notorious in the 70s & 80s for having deathbirds in the air.
No, I didn't confuse about Spanair.  I know Spanair very well.  I sold hundreds of vacations to Canarias when Marsans and Spanair had "great" deals flying from Buenos Aires to Tenerife.  Shit, why do you guys think that everything that people says here is invented or wrong?

Oh noes. You didn't. Where have I defended Spain here? I merely STATED exactly what the BBC site said :

Spanair are known to be a very safe company.

I don't see anything wrong with reading the news and acknowledging it.

Aw, did the big bad boy get a little excited when he said those things? Yes, because I am going to sink down to your pathetic level.

Uzique: Thank you, you understand. All sergeriver did in this thread was "I blame spanair for their poor track maintenance record" when it will probably have nothing to do with that.

I have only ever gotten "hyped" about Spanish sport, and even then, take my comments in jest. Internets, srs bsns.

Even as a future pilot myself, I still tend to get just a bit uneasy before flying.

And calling my claims, not accusations, stupid without any proof or knowledge on the issue doesn't help yours.  You insulted me just because I said the maintenance carried by Spanair wasn't the best.  You need to be more "MODerate".  I see you didn't address my other post.  Nevermind.  I wonder if I'm using verbs correctly.

The correction on your "fly" verb was not intended to be taken harshly. I was just trying to help you to use the proper grammar. Sorry if that sounded any other way.

I am the one that has proof. There is nothing on the track record of Spanair and therefore I have the right to question your claims. I never made any claims, I merely stated what I saw on the BBC. You are the one who has no proof and was making those claims, I just couldn't see where you were coming from because you presented no proof of such accusations.

The Spanair jet's left engine caught fire the moment it finally left the ground, causing it to crash back down on the runway and split in two. It then burst apart in a horrific fireball.

Government sources said the death toll was 153. Twenty survivors are in Madrid hospitals.

It was disclosed that shortly before the crash, the plane had been forced to return to its gate at Madrid's Barajas airport after its first attempt at take off failed. Passengers were warned they could have to disembark and change planes, it was claimed.

However, only an hour after arriving back at the gate the plane, an MD-82, then attempted another take off which proved fatal. According to one report it was seen coming out of a maintenance shed just moments before its second attempt.

It was also disclosed that a sister plane of the one that crashed in Madrid had to make an emergency landing only five days ago after suffering suspected engine problems. That plane diverted to an airport in Gran Canaria after losing power in mid-air.

The model of plane has a chequered safety history and has been involved in a series of crashes around the world.
DC-9's and its mod MD-80's and MD-82's have a large history of accidents.  You need special care with these plaens, which are beautiful but for instance American Airlines was forced earlier this year to inspect all their MD-80's by the US FAA because they found issues with their wiring which may lead to a fire in the engine.

Oh yes, I wont deny that the DC-9s and MDs are very unreliable planes compared to the rest. They really shouldn't be running anymore.

Oh, I see, I appreciate very much your help.  Thanks.  I guess my grammar is a disgrace for this place, sorry.  And you can check for yourself the financial issues Spanair has, it's going to fire 1,000 people in a few days.  And my claims come from what I read from specialized magazines and I have several friends who happen to be commercial pilots, not in Spanair though.  These things are known in the industry.  But, I never meant to insult your country.  The company isn't even Spanish.  It belongs to SAS anyway.  But I know Marsans.  I know how they work.  I know what they did to Aerolineas Argentinas.  I know what they did to Spanair.  It's also easy to place the blame on the pilot who is dead.  We should wait and see what really happened.  And a lot of times not having accidents doesn't mean you have a great maintenance, there's also luck.

Take a look at the planes Cubana uses.  The MD-80's are very safe planes compared to those ruskies they use.

Well, last time I flew was in a 737 to FL. SouthWest.

To start, there was a bomb threat. I made a thread in EE about it if you're bored enough to search. Even worse, it was a direct threat against SouthWest Airlines and a specific flight. Not my flight, but still. Enough to get me on the edge.

Then, some drunk faggot with this heavy eastern-european/russian sounding accent started cursing and screaming at the reps who worked at the gate counter, then some guy tried to pull him away and the drunk threw fists...then a cop (they had called security like 3 minutes prior) tackled him (and the fucking drunk kicked him) and took him away. Enough to get me even more on the edge.

So, that wasn't a pleasant plane ride. Ironically enough, I watched Charlie Wilson's War on my iPhone because you had recommended it, so that helped a bit.

But even on normal flights, I am never 100% okay.

Mexicans are originally Mayan indians. They viewed the tribes to the north ( the American indians ) as savage indians and themselves as the enlightened ones.
When the Spanish invaded they were horrified by the human sacrifice and canabalism going on at the temples and cities. The systematically destroyed and buried the Mayan temples and forced them all to become Catholic.

If I was Mexican I'd renounce the Catholics and start sacrificing people again.

I actually saw a program on this.
From meat plants, a certain amount of beef is flagged for having E coli.

It is allowed to be sold as pre cooked meat. They cook the bacteria out, package and freeze it and their primary customers are Taco bell, other fast foods and public schools.

Why do you think they can still have .79 cent tacos?
