Nothing fancy, something silent. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Just get the cheapest SATA burner you can find. I have a couple of Samsung ones here, they are good

Yea any SATA DVD burner will work.  The tech has been around so long that if a company managers to screw it up they should'nt be trusted past making paper weights.  I personally use an ASUS one.

I just bought the Asus drive, and I'm very impressed.  With the pressed chassis it is very rigid and stable.  It also has a very short chassis design, so it doesn't hang well into the case, as some drives do.  It has been very quiet while playing/burning DVD's, but more than anything I like how quiet the drawer is.  Every drive I have owned has that grinding gear sound as the tray opens.  This drive is nearly dead silent in that respect.

Oh, this is a retail package and includes both a black and white faceplate.

I have a LITE-ON SATA DVD burner. Hasn't given me any issues yet.

They pretty much all do the same thing, just pick a preferred brand.

I've used LITE-ON for my few systems. Unless you're doing a lot of burning/ripping, it doesn't matter. There's one on newegg for $24. For most people and "gamers," the disc drive will be utilized so little that whatever sound it makes when the tray opens and whatever noise comes out while it' spinning isn't worth dropping more cash on.
