so i think my raptor is beginning to die on me; it makes a lot more noise than it used to and seems to be getting slower. what would be my best option as far as replacing it? i've never done raid before, but i'm up for trying it out. space is not a big factor to me since i have an external hd. i just want the fastest setup for the least amount of money.
Here's something to look at in single-drive performances: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/3-5- … 90%2C2021#

so i should just get another 74gb raptor then?
Possibly, if you don't want to spend $300 on Velociraptor.i g wrote:

I don't really know much about RAID setups, but RAID1 is supposedly a lot faster than one disk. Option too, thus.

In my book, there are only two options: SSD or VelociRaptor.

i have an external hd, so the only thing i will be using the new stuff for will be windows and a few games. i wont need any more than 36gb
32GB SSD - $204.00
64GB SSD - $259.00
or wait for the 74GB VelociRaptor.
(NOTE: I'm not at all sure whether the 2.5" SSD's always come with a 3.5" 'mounting bracket', and I've seen them advertised with and without, so beware!)

so how does that compare to a raptor as far as speed goesScorpion0x17 wrote:

Not able to do two things at once? What's that about?
Is your raptor still under warranty? If so and it's showing signs of dieing i'd just try to RMA it personally.i g wrote:

WD have 3 year RMA check into Raptor.
thanks ill look in to it
I'd guess that's down to the disappointing write speeds - with multiple apps open, windows swaps things in (writes) to the swap file somewhat.FFLink13 wrote:

From what I've seen, they come into their own when used exclusively for OS and Apps (with swap file on a non-SSD drive).
