Erm my cousin's laptop blew up or something, he is looking to build a computer mainly for study but does want to play the odd game now and there.

Could you guys possibly recommend a build preferably all the stuff he can buy from overclockers.net. I do know a bit about parts and stuff but I figured why not leave it to the expert advice of you people.

like he said do you need monitor keyboard mouse if not have your friend find a case he likes and maybe even go for the ati 4850. If someone else can squeeze better parts into the budget feel free.

Nah no keyboards and stuff just the tower, he kinda wants a small form factor computer I kinda advised against it due difficulties in getting replacement motherboards.

Things to consider:
- If you want to go under that £500 choose HD4850 instead of 4870.
- That PSU and mobo will give you the possibility to go Crossfire later.
- If you don't think you'll need 500GB of storage, you can switch the HD to smaller
- If you go vista, take 2 sets of that memory, and 4850 instead of 4870 to null the price difference.
- I did not include DVD-writer, because I thought you have one from your old box.
- Choose a cheap case to put all that in. There are decent ones for under £20 on ebuyer.

Cheers for the suggestion dude but dil13 has built a beast, for a very nice price too, you see he isn't really that into gaming I reckon the 8800GS would more that do him he wants to play cnc3 or something. Wait isn't the 8800GS poop? He detests vista and is going to be using xp. 4870 is overkill being honest in terms of what he is going to be using it for. Still thanks for the help.

Quad core is a waste right now if he is only gaming and word precessing. Maybe go for the ati 4850 its 50 more but you should be within budget with a cheep case i through that together in 5 minutes.
