Israel has agreed to change the route of the controversial barrier it is building in and around the West Bank.

The deal will leave Palestinians more land near the largest Israeli settlement, Maale Adumim.

The decision came in response to complaints lodged by Palestinians with the Israeli High Court.

The Israeli government says it will move the barrier closer to the settlement to allow 400 hectares of Palestinian land to remain untouched.
It's a first step, although removing the settlements would be ok too.

So the Israelis are going to steal slightly less than they previously planned.
Terrific.

It would be a first step if they stuck to the green line.
Then they can remove the 'settlements'.

It's not a contraversial barrier.

There's been a international court of justice ruling on the subject. Any parts of the wall (and yes they also decided that the correct term for it is a wall) that are built beyond the 1967 borders are illegal.

It's therfore an illegal wall.

As long as no one can enforce that ruling, it is not illegal.

What kind of twisted logic is that? Might is right?
If the US didn't veto every UNSC resolution it would be enforced, Israel would be subject to sanctions until they took it down or put it on their border.

Hmmm I should really educate myself on this situation. Seems most D&ST is about Israel...

The UNSC doesn't determine whether something is legal or illegal. I know that's hard for you to believe. Is the UNSC the fanciful "court" you keep referring to in all your posts about "illegal" actions across the globe?

Plenty of countries could enforce sanctions themselves against Israel without UNSC voting. Yet they don't. Hmmm...wonder why that is?
