New Laptop

My mom wants to get a laptop for Christmas, but both her and I don't know exactly what to look for.
She wants to use it for surfing the net, playing online games, checking e-mails, stuff like that. Nothing too computer-intensive.

Our price range is between $500 and $800. Any brands or models I should be looking into in particular?

PS: Should it have 3GB of RAM to handle Vista Premium smoothly?

No, we aren't going to do that, because then you have to ship it away for repairs. Future Shop is amazing and I never second guess myself when I buy from there.
