So I ran into a very weird and annoying problem.
I happened yesterday when the computer froze shortly after start up.
Now, it can't even start up. And if it does, the monitor switches between, black, white or gray and normal screen.

I have no clue what could have caused this. Noting weird have happened before that.

Any help appreciated.

Jensen.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Try replacing the ram, as fermatx suggests.

Do you hear any weird beeps from your motherboard during startup now?

That's good then. Usually when the pc starts up it runs a quick diagnostic of itself and if it finds a prob gives out an error message through a few beep sounds. When it does that you don't boot into windows, etc. So I thought that could be your prob.

And 4 gig of ram with Windows XP is certainly over kill.

Try starting it up again with just 2 gig and see what happens.

Well, I've used 4GB since almost and year, with no problem at all.
But I might just try that.

Now it seems like it's working, but it's like FF is a fresh install, when it isn't.

Could the problem just have been a temporary one?

Well, it's not working again.

Removing 2 sticks of RAM so that I had 2GB instead of 4GB didn't work in any combination.

Set all overclocked hardware back to normal speed.

Remove all unnecessary hardware: take out 3 gigs of ram and one hard drive. And can you swap in a different video card?

Sounds like a problem with one of three things:

1. Monitor (though this going wrong shouldn't stop the PC from booting).
2. Video card (this could stop the PC from booting).
3. PSU (this is more likely to stop the PC from booting).

Swap out/replace these to diagnose/solve the issue.

I found out that my 8800GT is broken, but replacing it with my old 7600GT, doesn't help.

It still wont boot. Could the broken 8800GT have broken my motherboard in some way?

Most likely the 8800GT is not the broken part.

You should try to get your hands to another monitor/monitor cable. I have seen similar problems caused by a faulty monitor cable on my brother's machine.

Well, the 8800GT is broken. Some little chip thing has fallen off.
I'll try to boot up with another monitor later tonight.

I want a pic of that fallen part I also want the vendor of the card (need for knowledgebase of good/bad subvendors)

If you may?

By vendor you mean eVga which he mentioned in his specs?

In blue/purple-ish circle: Where the bit use to be.

EDIT: The card is an eVga card.

Okay, so I've replaced the monitor with a working one, same with gfx, still wont boot.

Could it be the motherboard that's broken?
