So, all of a sudden, my memory use shot up. Usually it stays around 50-60% with only Firefox/IRC/AIM/iTunes on, but it's shot up to 81%.

Any reason for this? And how do I fix it?

I've got 2 gigs of RAM and Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I've had memory leaks with FireFox and iTunes before. Just close the programs and see if anything changes. Usually closing then opening them again fixed it.

Best thing would be to post a screenshot of your Task manager.

I'd do that, but it's not even letting me. It keeps saying there's not enough memory.

Restart your PC first.
Its a known problem with FF

I've done that. Cold restarts, warm restarts...everything. I left it off for like 20 minutes and turned it back on...nothing.

After a restart open IE and see if it still happens.

Damn I'm really busy, everyone is asking me questions (xfire, PM)

Boo into safe mode and screenshot Taskmanager. Also see if it happens there too.

How does it work in safe mode?

Btw disable that sidebar. Those can cause memory leaks. Have you installed any add on for the sidebar recently? Also check if your antivirus is updating or just close it.

I'm just gonna get new memory. This stuff's old anyways and I need some new DDR2.

This look good?

This is pretty basic, Platinum is a bit better but for OCing I would get something better. Since I think you wanna go with OCZ, Reaper is your best choice.

Or that? I'd be willing to go up to that.

OCZ confuses me with so many different versions. Best to read some reviews.

I assume this'll be good:

Even if it wasn't the problem, it'll be nice to have extra RAM anyways.

Edit: ORDERED

Obviously too late, but the RAM you picked out has sucky latencies.  5-5-5-18 is really no good.  4-4-4-12 is what you want.  Not that you'll see a hugely noticeable difference, but hey, faster is faster.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820220269

^^And you could have gotten some 4-4-4-12 memory for cheaper too

Can't I just OC it? I mean, isn't that what that memory is specialized in?

Also; I'm in Safe Mode and only using 22% of my memory. So it's obviously malware.

Even if, I'm glad I got new RAM. 4 is much better than the 2 I had.

I did a virus scan...nothing. Nothing at all.

Looks like I'm gonna have to reformat.

I have an OEM version of Windows...if I reformat, will I be able to re-install with that disc?

You can reinstall using an OEM disk
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

As long as you have not changed motherboards since you first installed Windows.

even if you did, you can just call MS and they will give you an activation code
