I am trying to use 3 screens however i cant seem to boot when i put my second card in.

I have dual screen on my 8800GTS however when i add a nvidia 5500 the machine doesn't boot. i turn it on and the 8800 graphics fan will spin up and sometimes stays spun up or some times it will go to its normal self and nothing would show on any of the screens or keyboard.

I have looked in bios and nothing shows up.

Any ideas?

You can't mix a 8800 and a 5500. You will need to SLi the 8800.

Never mind, I need to do more research next time.

No idea really. Can you boot with only the 5500?

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

SLI isnt needed to do this, im not trying to mix them together. right?

Can you boot with only the 5500?
I know the card works in other machines, but i will try it standalone in mine.

Do you have enough power to run both the cards?

Should be enough, but these things (dual card power consumption when running asymmetrically) can be unpredictable.

With that PSU there is a chance that it is power causing your problems.

Doubt it. An FX5500 will run on the power from a PCI slot.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Which is at 3.3V.

It can make stuff awkward, because it is shared with the CPU/RAM/Mobo. Even if you do have plenty of current for that voltage, it can make things a bit weird. So can using cards that have different interfaces.

It's not a Quadro FX5500 is it? That certainly wouldn't run properly with an 8800 on that PSU.....

Lets try this agian, had a power cut.

Its not that one its a old old one 128 mb.

i have manged to get it to boot up and the card will but up on its own, windows installed the drivers and reaterd, now all i get is a bsod with driver not qual. This happens if have the old card in or not.

I am going to reinstall the 8800 driver and see.

now im fked. lol.

Basicly i cant get the drivers installed for both of them at the same time for some reason. If i isntall the 5500 drivers i get a BSOD when i boot up and when i install 8800 drivers the 5500 card dosnt show up.

8-series and 5/4-series do not seem to work together properly on Vista 64-bit. You are not the only one with this problem.

I think I have found that out the hard way. I think I might buy a cheep 6 series card.

Get a 7300GT, they use next to no power, less than any 6-series, and doesn't eat your RAM with TC.
