Hey,

There are many knowledgeable members on these forums, and was hoping for some advice.

I'm currently 15 and already planning my future. Already have the University of my dreams (MIT btw), already have my highschool credits necessary to graduate, and my main goal is to be an Astronaut or work within NASA.

Here's the problem, I don't know how to get there... I wanted to study Aeronautical Engineering but I don't know if that's going to end me up there. Another option is to become a pilot and be the best of the best and hopefully get picked to fly the next shuttle or something. I'm already saving up for some flying lessons...

Help me bf2s to point out a way to be an Astronaut so I can follow.

(this r seriouz thread, i really want to be an astronaut)

-Many Thanks

go to the Naval Academy, go into the Navy as a pilot. After some years building hours, and continuing your education, apply for the test pilot program. Take it from there. You stand a much better chance of getting selected from a military tree than a civilian tree.

Best advice you're going to hear I think. Other than perhaps join the airforce.

Well ( and I say this as ex-AF) the Navy produces a better pilot with its carrier ops, so the common belief is.

As for the credits, I have met the requirements that my school puts out to graduate. My Middle School had an advance science program which got me the 2/3 credits for science as well in math. Meaning, if I really wanted to, I could graduate next year since I have met the Miami Dade Schools Standard (which are pretty low tbh).

For the MIT thing, I just want to go there lol I don't have a deal with them or anything, though a Junior last year was granted a full scholarship for them. No clue how, have to ask.

Yeah, my dad wants me to go to Embry Riddle because it's in the state and has a well reputation among pilots. Will check that out for sure.

Thanks for all the help guys, if I ever go to space/moon/mars/uranus, I will carve out a big sign saying "BF2s wuz here lololololololol"

Nope they don't, end of story in 99% of cases.

Why would you even want them to when your University has a 3:1 female-male ratio- of which all the females are fiiiine posh wimmenz!

Although I doubt I experienced it on the scale or 'extravagance' of other places, the first year is generally just a year for casual sexytimes, drunken escapades and loads of general debauchery! .

I have a limited understanding of the American University system; the fact that you can qualify for a prestigious institution before you even graduate mystifies me somewhat, so I will keep my largely useless contribution out. I wish you the best of luck though, being an astronaut is a dream career path for many and I'm sure you'll encounter a lot of competition along the way. With a little focus and determination any goal is possible!

Edit: Unless you want to go to Uranus. Forget it. Pick up the McDonalds application form tomorrow morning.

lol the Uranus comment was joke Yea but see I have met minimum requirements. Prestigious universities look for more when they are comparing you in a pool of a couple of thousands or more students, so I'm not all that either. But thanks for the boost I really hope I can achieve this.

i tried (for the sake of doing it) applying to MIT, so here's some pointers:
  • Extracurriculars - have a fuckload, they certainly help you, particularly if you actually have an active interest in them (this applies to other schools as well)
  • Grades - good ones. even if you're above the 94 average, aim to get them higher (they don't really like to see whether your course was difficult or not [not to say take a lot of easy ones])
  • The race card (assuming it applies to you) - don't bother playing it, they want no part of it (we asians run the place anyway), it's all based on academic and extracurricular merit
  • Interview - a must have if you're serious about it (i wasn't, i had no intention of going there)
  • Recommendations - make sure you have teachers that like you, that you can guarantee will say mostly good things about you, you need one from a science/mathematics teacher (obviously) and one from a humanities (english, social studies, etc.) teacher (i went with double science teachers, i really did NOT care)

also, i don't believe MIT offers aerospace engineering per se, but you could probably do mech engineering with a specialty in aeronautics
