Another marvellous album that is fresh in exploration and experimentation as well as consistent in style and quality.
Ever since Bloc Party released their first sketchy demo-EP I have been an avid listener and a big fan of theirs; sure many of the underground indie elitists nowadays consider them to be "too mainstream" to be worthy of any mention or applause, but for me personally they were the pioneers of that exciting time when British indie made a triumphant resurgence. Nothing has ever quite recaptured the anthemic nature and the memorable moments of their debut album Silent Alarm- but what they have done very successfully is realise this album's classic potency, and instead have been extremely experimental and 'different' in all of their releases thus since.
Intimacy sees an altogether more electronic and overdriven incarnation of the usual Bloc Party sound. If anyone here has been locked in a closet for the last 5 years and hasn't heard of Bloc Party I would still recommend Silent Alarm as their magnum opus- but for current fans and experimental/electronic aficionados I would definitely plug this album. A great mix of beat-driven party tunes and slow thoughtful melodies. Will keep my Bloc Party interests spinning for several more months to come!
