under duress?  i dont get it.  should you take them out for a round of golf and ask them nicely for information?   people typically DO NOT volunteer information unless they are threatened.

Conversley they may confess to anything to prevent continued 'duress'...can you place reliance on confessions extracted under duress?

Interrogation is an art, and believe me, anyone with a fucked up mind enough to do some crazy shit can be cracked without so much as tickling them.  You really have to understand deviant psychology and personality disorders.  Yes, it takes time (hours to weeks), but if they're talking at all you can crack them.  Most sociopaths are very proud of what they do or did, or the opposite, very ashamed of what they do or did...either way they'll talk about it in confessional form or bragging.  Will the info be 100% accurate from a single source, or even the same person over multiple sessions?  No.  That's why you don't shortcut.  Multiple sources.  Multiple checks.  Multiple methods.  You know...real intelligence or investigative work.

Torture and threats is a practice for half-retarded lazy shit interrogators - hence the brilliant change in policy by our chimp in chief and his friends.  Makes you almost wonder if they really even care about the info they're trying to get eh?
Shocking
sorry you feel that way

Watch the new Starsky and Hutch. The one with Stiller and Wilson. That interrogation with the Russian Roulette.

If we've already hauled the guy to Guantanamo, the info isn't that super duper urgent.  The real world almost never plays out like an episode of "24".  Think of it as the difference between say watching Rambo II and your life in the Marine Corps.  Did you tell your DI in basic "Hey, Rambo never needed to learn to march!" ?  You should know that real life doesn't match up to the Hollywood parody.

IF (and that's a big if) there is ever a situation like that, you would be justified in breaking the rules.  Take special note of the "breaking the rules" part.  The rules are in place for a reason.  If you break them, you will need to justify your actions in some way or another (it may just be automatically understood, or they may need a full hearing).  I've personally never seen a case where anyone was busted for breaking rules to save immediate life or limb.

On the flipside, to institutionalize torture and other shortcut methods of gaining unreliable and bad intelligence is inhumane, stupid, and speaks to a different agenda than the one stated.

Can I ask your advice usmarine? Let's say I, Braddock, am being interrogated in relation to some suspected terrorist activity but, as is the case in reality, I am completely innocent...what do I do to avoid getting tortured seen as I have no actual information to give them?

Don't they? That's funny because Gerry Conlon spent 15 years in prison for nothing at all. Or did I just imagine that?

It actually happens all the time.

Just that lazy ass conservatives who don't want to be "soft" on prisoners are fucking up the system of due process.

Im torn on this topic.  Torture is bad. But, I know Ill look the other way if some dude that was responsible for trying to kill me or my buddies was under "duress" during interogation.
