BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq and the United States have agreed that a planned security pact will require all U.S. troops to leave by the end of 2011, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said on Monday, while Washington said no final deal had been reached.

Bad for Obama if the US confirms this.

Doesn't matter - it has to be passed by the Iraqi parliament. The longer this process spins out the better. I'd say either McCain or Obama will be in office before this gets finalised (perhaps a tactic on the part of the Iraqis). I don't think the Iraqi parliament could get away with sanctioning an extended presence of US troops in their country, not with general elections to think about.

Then please explain the presence of Russian troops in Poti, Senaki and Zugdidi. I wouldn't be surprised if the US managed to pull out a lease for an Iraqi airfield.

Contractors are military now. They've got the same budgets, if not better. They've got all the airfcraft and armoured vehicles to make your dream a dream of the wet variety.
