High Pitched noise coming from speakers?

Nothing is on or running, im running the same setup I was when it wasnt making this sound

Its sort of annoying, if I turn down my sound on Windows it turns off, so I dont think its the speakers themselves right?

Its not a squeal, its quiet, constant, and annoying as hell

any ideas as to what it could be? (Ive shut down iTunes and it keeps going)

For a while, and this also happens in my laptop, I would get a strange high pitched sound when I moved my mouse around. My guess was EMI, so I moved the card to a different slot that was further away from the I/O area on the MB and voila, it's gone.

Worst case scenario would be the sound card could be damaged.

Try removing the sound card and putting it back in.

Also on the windows volume taskbar do you have the microphone volume unmuted and set on high?

Sounds like interference to me. I intermittently get the same thing.

The card was working fine before

I disabled the microphone and the same thing is happening

Btw, When I play music, the high frequency sound stops

If I turn the music down though it comes back.

What could be interfering?

Sort of impossible, everythings wired around my desk, and theres not much other place for them on the desk

edit, if it was interference why does it stop when I cut the feed to just the computer?
