I actually got mine the other day.  You're right, it is damn near impossible.  Just like the expert first aid.  I got it in a 32 player server, 64 player sized map.  I tried 3 rounds that day and got it on the last.  It was on Wake and I kept repairing the USS Essex's AA gun and the commander's assets.  Obviously I didn't do anything else but try and make repairs.  The first couple of rounds my team capped all the flags pretty early in the game so my team couldn't help but win.  Third round was a charm, died about 3 times, made no kills, but got the repairs.  Noone on my team used the jets so the opposing team had a ball with theirs.  Kept harrassing me on my AA so I got about 14 or 15 repairs from that.  Some enemy spec ops blew up our assets several times so I made plenty there.  While I was on the island I msged to my team to let me repair their crap and luckily a teammate brought his cobra to me several minutes later and that repair was my final one.  Got it with each team having just over 20 tickets.  Round lasted at least half an hour as well.

I have also been trying for it.  Ahhhhh!

I got 2 suggestions for you.

1) play mobile mechanic on karkand. get in a van and follow the apcs and tank everywhere. keep an eye out for commander assets being blown, your in a van so it only takes 30 seconds tops to get back there and fix them. if your van takes fire and gets damaged, drive it to safety, sit in the back and wrench away.

I didnt get mine that way, but consistently got around 18-20 repairs a round, and I'm sure I would have got it eventually

2) play on a jet whore server on oman, kubra or cleansweep, and pray your team is full of retards that hang around waiting for jets/choppers instead of getting in vehicles and capping flags. this leaves the opposing teams bomber pilot with sweet FA to do other than bomb the crap out of your commander toys. Get a jeep, but dont sit in it waiting, keep it out the way and just stand by it, else you show up like a xmas tree to above mentioned bored bomber pilot. When the assets get blown, drive to them, get out and wrench untill the "reload" bar is empty and it starts to go slow, then risk getting back in the jeep to finish the job off and hope you dont get bombed to hell.

I got mine the second way, with over 150 tickets remaining on kubra dam. Its not as fun as the karkand way, and you're likely to get bombed to hell and back a fair few times, so be prepared to have a crap score at the end of the round. Also be prepared for half of your team to copy you when they figure out that you're getting a ton of repairs, when that happens just keep an eye out for the enemy bomber, and run like crap when you see it coming. that way all the other engy wannabees get blow to hell leaving you with blown up assets to fix all to yourself for a good 30 seconds or so, about the ammount of time it takes to make a reaload round trip in the bomber ;-)

Never tried because i'm not legible for it anyway as i dont play engineer often enough. Only got just over 100 repairs

It usually only works with 3 people together in tanks or apcs because 2 hits with anti tank and your done. Now with 3 tanks you can get hit by 6 in a row and it do nothing bad i even got hit with 4 c4 packs and was almost killed i was in red but was back to normal in seconds not the best way to get repair point but a awsome way to whore vehicles. But play on big maps with few people (like oman or wake there is 3 artilly instead of 2) and with the bigger map the points go down slower so you can end up playing a game for an hour or more.

That's how I got vet repair, except I killed the spec ops every time instead of letting them live.  I'd make my little circuit over and over again around the backyard of the palace fixing stuff.  Got a little boring.  Regrettably, letting spec ops live to repeatedly blow up assets is probably the best way to get enough points for expert.

i got mine - found a 64 player server with 20 or so guys in it and they kept blowing our commander trailers up with the jets...took a long time but i got it finally - if u can find a server with a lot of tickets and not a lot of people and guys that like to blow stuff up its doable...ive gotten close a few times following tanks and apcs around in trucks as well
